If only we had data on how MCAT and GPA effect matriculation chances.....
oh yeah: https://www.aamc.org/data/facts/applicantmatriculant/157998/factstablea24.html
True but that table doesn't have # II's or # of acceptances. It only shows that the person got atleast 1 acceptance.
It annoys me to no end. I had a very strong DO app/weak-mediocre MD app (3.6 GPA, 507 MCAT) and while I was disappointed that I didn't receive any MD interviews (especially from my state schools 🙁), I was realistic in that my stats weren't really strong enough. Those who are so strongly averse to being a DO, in my opinion, do not want to be a physician as badly as they think they do.and why is that?
Its always interesting to see applicants who are weak stats wise act like DO is beneath them

Agreed. It's all well and good to aspire to get an MD, but if you're not willing to be a DO to become a physician, I don't think you're necessarily applying for the right reasonsIt annoys me to no end. Thank you! 🙂I agree 100%. Congrats on that acceptance!
I guess what I mean to say is that you should have a realistic expectation of your application; like if you have lower stats or have been reapplying several times, you should be willing to at least consider DO.I don't necessarily agree with the bolded, but you literally can't say your goal mcat score is 503 in the same breath as you have no intention of applying to DO schools. Those two sentiments don't go together at all, even if you are URM or have a perfect gpa.
That I agree with. But it is okay, a few rejection letters have a way of slapping you back to reality, which is why people scramble to apply to DO schools in Jan and Feb, when they really should have in June.I guess what I mean to say is that you should have a realistic expectation of your application; like if you have lower stats or have been reapplying several times, you should be willing to at least consider DO.
Hello all, I'm curious as to how many schools I should apply to and was wondering how people who have come before me have fared in their AMCAS application cycle(s). Please include:
1. The number of primaries you submitted
2. The number of interviews invites (IIs) you got
3. The number of schools you got accepted to
4. Your MCAT score(s) and GPA when applying.
Number of volunteer hours??Only applied MD

Just because there's no MDPhD representation on this thread 😛
1. 23 primaries/secondaries
2. 12 II (10 MDPhD/2MD only)
9 I attended (8 MP/1 MD)
3. 3 A/ 2 WL so far
4. 524/33 and 3.8c/3.6s
what was your gpa and mcat like?1. 7 Primaries (submitted 5 secondaries)
2. 2 II
3. 1 A (haven't heard back from the other school)
4. LizzyM ~ 57
Only applied MD. URM. My extracurricular activities and career goals matched perfectly with the school's mission statement.
Well I have the FAP, a clutch refund check that came outta nowhere, a whole summer to pre-write and complete secondaries, and the heart of a lion. I think I'll be okayWith your stats, applying to 40 MD schools will likely result in 40 rejections, a lot of regret, and money down the drain.
People are just being realistic. Yes, there are most definitely people who get accepted with lower stats. But it is certainly not something that occurs very frequently. Even with a back story of struggle, great ECs, research, etc I did not receive even an interview for an MD school (stats: MCAT 507 GPA: 3.6). I want to see my peers succeed as much as the next guy, but if you ask for advice on this forum, people are going to be brutally honest with you. And no one is saying you absolutely cannot get an MD acceptance. But your absolute refusal to apply DO comes off as arrogant despite not having the stats to back it up.Why is this website full of so many people who write you off simply based off of your MCAT and gpa without even knowing what your story/journey to medicine was like? or even what ECs you have? Are people completely oblivious to the fact that THERE ARE MANY people with gpas < 3.4 and MCATs <505 who actually do get accepted into MD schools? I really don't know if its response bias or just people trying to put others down for fun...

I don't think SDN is being that malicious lol, it's just that you haven't stated you are AA yet in the thread, and/or people are not aware how competitive a 3.5/505 is for MD for an AA applicantWhy is this website full of so many people who write you off simply based off of your MCAT and gpa without even knowing what your story/journey to medicine was like? or even what ECs you have? Says the person who wrote off all DO schools in one fell swoop, without an mcat score. Of course there are people who get in with those stats but at that point it isn't a numbers game anymore, the person has something else that the schools want. All we said is you may want to make some of those 40 schools DO schools. Don't make the comments here out to be more than they are.Why is this website full of so many people who write you off simply based off of your MCAT and gpa without even knowing what your story/journey to medicine was like? or even what ECs you have? I'm just familiar with OP from this thread where he said he was AA (and also for some reason lies about whether or not he actually has an MCAT)![]()
Not all URM's are AA

Which practice tests are you taking? A lot of them tend to underestimate your score. If it's the aamc test, then I'd take it seriously and adjust your study strategies to focus on your weaknesses.
Well fair enough, thanks for the honesty. Would you mind indicating how many schools you applied to?People are just being realistic. I know that feeling. 😢22 primaries - ended up submitting only 14 secondaries. My bank account was literally nonexistent at that point and I couldn't submit any more.
Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile
Are you a traditional applicant?27 primaries
25 secondaries
6 interview invites
5 interviews attended
3 acceptances
1 waitlist
1 pending decision post-interview
All M.D.
I decided not complete my D.O. app after I received my first M.D. interview invite in order to save money.
511 MCAT
2.95 cGPA

3rd time applying and very pleased with the outcome!
Increased mcat slightly. More extra curricular activities to talk about. I also skipped an application cycle this last time instead of applying back to back again like the first two times. What did you do that was different from first 2 times?
