How many medical schools did you get accepted to?

True but that table doesn't have # II's or # of acceptances. It only shows that the person got atleast 1 acceptance.

True, the data has it's limitations. But it gives a good idea of what I think the OP wants to know, their chances of acceptance.

Wait, it just occurred to me that 40 applications means like 30+ secondaries?:boom:

and why is that?

Its always interesting to see applicants who are weak stats wise act like DO is beneath them
It annoys me to no end. I had a very strong DO app/weak-mediocre MD app (3.6 GPA, 507 MCAT) and while I was disappointed that I didn't receive any MD interviews (especially from my state schools 🙁), I was realistic in that my stats weren't really strong enough. Those who are so strongly averse to being a DO, in my opinion, do not want to be a physician as badly as they think they do.

I agree 100%. Congrats on that acceptance!

Agreed. It's all well and good to aspire to get an MD, but if you're not willing to be a DO to become a physician, I don't think you're necessarily applying for the right reasons

I don't necessarily agree with the bolded, but you literally can't say your goal mcat score is 503 in the same breath as you have no intention of applying to DO schools. Those two sentiments don't go together at all, even if you are URM or have a perfect gpa.

I guess what I mean to say is that you should have a realistic expectation of your application; like if you have lower stats or have been reapplying several times, you should be willing to at least consider DO.

That I agree with. But it is okay, a few rejection letters have a way of slapping you back to reality, which is why people scramble to apply to DO schools in Jan and Feb, when they really should have in June.

Hello all, I'm curious as to how many schools I should apply to and was wondering how people who have come before me have fared in their AMCAS application cycle(s). Please include:
1. The number of primaries you submitted
2. The number of interviews invites (IIs) you got
3. The number of schools you got accepted to
4. Your MCAT score(s) and GPA when applying.

1- 20
2- 12 (attended 6)
3- 4
4- Gpa: 3.9 MCAT- 504/513

Just because there's no MDPhD representation on this thread 😛

1. 23 primaries/secondaries
2. 12 II (10 MDPhD/2MD only)
9 I attended (8 MP/1 MD)
3. 3 A/ 2 WL so far
4. 524/33 and 3.8c/3.6s

As in you got a 33 one time and retook with the new scoring and got a 524?

Going to do this even though you can see it in my signature anyway.
1. 15 primaries
2. 10 II
3. 2 A/4 WL (what's with all the wait lists? Seriously, someone help), waiting on 4
4. 518 and 3.83

1. 7 Primaries (submitted 5 secondaries)
2. 2 II
3. 1 A (haven't heard back from the other school)
4. 1 R
5. LizzyM ~ 57

Only applied MD. URM. My extracurricular activities and career goals matched perfectly with the school's mission statement.

My goal is at least a 508. Where I am at now on my practice tests is a 503.

what was your gpa and mcat like?

GPA ~3.95 MCAT 518, pretty average ECs

~27 primaries/secondaries
13 II
9 interviews attended
4 accepances, 3 WLs, 1 deferral, 1 rejection

I ended up withdrawing from like 12 schools after my first acceptance in Oct, so I definitely could have applied to fewer schools and saved some dollars. Also my interview skills are mediocre at best (especially MMI ugh) so I'm not rly suprised by my end results.

With your stats, applying to 40 MD schools will likely result in 40 rejections, a lot of regret, and money down the drain.
Well I have the FAP, a clutch refund check that came outta nowhere, a whole summer to pre-write and complete secondaries, and the heart of a lion. I think I'll be okay

Why is this website full of so many people who write you off simply based off of your MCAT and gpa without even knowing what your story/journey to medicine was like? or even what ECs you have? Are people completely oblivious to the fact that THERE ARE MANY people with gpas < 3.4 and MCATs <505 who actually do get accepted into MD schools? I really don't know if its response bias or just people trying to put others down for fun...

People are just being realistic. Yes, there are most definitely people who get accepted with lower stats. But it is certainly not something that occurs very frequently. Even with a back story of struggle, great ECs, research, etc I did not receive even an interview for an MD school (stats: MCAT 507 GPA: 3.6). I want to see my peers succeed as much as the next guy, but if you ask for advice on this forum, people are going to be brutally honest with you. And no one is saying you absolutely cannot get an MD acceptance. But your absolute refusal to apply DO comes off as arrogant despite not having the stats to back it up.

You do realize that no one wrote you off? People just said apply to MD schools AND DO schools to be safe. But nope. You refuse to go DO.

Either you are a terrible troll or an incredibly arrogant person with a victim complex

I don't think SDN is being that malicious lol, it's just that you haven't stated you are AA yet in the thread, and/or people are not aware how competitive a 3.5/505 is for MD for an AA applicant

Says the person who wrote off all DO schools in one fell swoop, without an mcat score. Of course there are people who get in with those stats but at that point it isn't a numbers game anymore, the person has something else that the schools want. All we said is you may want to make some of those 40 schools DO schools. Don't make the comments here out to be more than they are.

Not all URM's are AA

Maybe because you leave out highly relevant information like the fact that you're black, so people are going off of the info you gave? Give more information next time then? If someone asks "here are my stats, what are my chances of getting into MD schools" then people are going to answer based off the information given, it's really not that difficult to understand. Don't criticize other people for giving you fair answers when you're the one leaving out all the facts.

3.8/509

MD: ~25 primaries/secondaries
8 II, 5 attended, 1 declined, 2 upcoming
3 Acceptances, 1 alt list, 3 unknown

DO: ~4 primaries/secondaries
1 II (declined)

Definitely could've applied to less schools but I kept freaking out and adding more. Totally thrilled by my results. Really had no clue how the cycle would pan out for me.

Which practice tests are you taking? A lot of them tend to underestimate your score. If it's the aamc test, then I'd take it seriously and adjust your study strategies to focus on your weaknesses.

Well fair enough, thanks for the honesty. Would you mind indicating how many schools you applied to?

27 primaries
25 secondaries
6 interview invites
5 interviews attended
3 acceptances
1 waitlist
1 pending decision post-interview

All M.D.

I decided not complete my D.O. app after I received my first M.D. interview invite in order to save money.

511 MCAT
2.95 cGPA

Are you a traditional applicant?

Last app cycle:
25 primaries/secondaries (all MD)
6 interviews, 5 attended
5 acceptances

ORM, 505 mcat, 3.6 GPA with a miraculous upward trend consisting of more than 100 credit hours at a 4.0 (including graduate school).

17 primaries
3 II (MD only)
1 acceptance and 2 waitlists

Non-trad, reapplicant with 513 and 3.7 gpa. Extremely excited for my acceptance and getting interviews at 3/4 of my top choice schools.

ALL MD
8 primary
8 secondary
5 II
4 Interviews attended
2 acceptance, 2 wait list.
516 MCAT, 4.0 GPA

hope our posts help, good luck

What did you do that was different from first 2 times?
Increased mcat slightly. More extra curricular activities to talk about. I also skipped an application cycle this last time instead of applying back to back again like the first two times.

That's all I can think of.

Edit: Also applied to only 8 schools first time around and 10 the second with no DO schools. This time I added more schools and a few DO as well
