hi,

I see the thread every day and notice lot of people getting admissions to different universities. I scored only 82 and so have no real choice of anywhere else. I was wondering how many of u out there r in the same situation (i.e. part 1 score of <85, hoping to get into NYU?) All of us (i.e. low scorers, hoping to get into atleast NYU!) may share whatever info they have about anything relating to NYU,

NyU is a great school..Many if not all will be having NYU as their last choice(including me) only becos it's a 3 yr program..but the funny thing is it cost's almost the same as California schools(2yr program).
I am definitly joining NYU(hoping I will get in) if I don't get in to other 2 yr programs..

me too in the same boat as my part 1 score is not great i have no chance of getting into a 2 yr program .i applied to nyu just last week as it was my last choice coz of the 3 yr program but itsa pretty good school from what i hear from my friends at nyu. so let hope for the best.

They told me that they will start interviewing only from jan 2005.

But are they really going to interview 625 candidates for 125 seats they have!!!!!!..it's gonna take 4-5 months for them to interview all 625 if they start interviewing 10 candidates per day & if they interview all 5 days a week 😱

Funny u mention that cuz i'm already a professor of english at harvard 😎 obviously i'm joking! but yeah the toefl was a joke for me , probably because i was born and raised in the states until i was 19 so i'm sure that had something to do with it🙂 i've always been good at writing essays, not to brag or anything but when i got my toefl scores they sent me a letter saying that they would like to use my essay as a sample essay that gets a grade of "6" or a perfect score...so they wanted my persmission, i thought about being a prick about it and saying no but i said what the hell...my essay will go down in history forever hhahhahah...and if i dont end up getting into any advance standing programs it' s someting i can be proud about hahahahahahha...

You guys who didn't have to go for an interview in california should relax, at least there wont be a practical exam! after going thru that at USC i hope this will be much eaiser 😀 i'm better at talking my way out of things, actually in this case i hope i'm good enuf to talk my way "into" things...."things" being, NYU BABY!!!!!!!!!! and if it goes bad, no problem, we're still in NYC , PARRRRRRRRRRRTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY but some of us will probably be drowning our sorrows while the others will actually be having a good time 😀

I think u should try to see if you can get the tourist visa again.Considering that you already came back once, i am sure that they would give it to you.
dont worry about it.

Or maybe another thing is that you could call the people at NYU and tell them your problem.Maybe they would agree to take your interview earlier.

according to the law of averages you should get into one of the schools
god is testing your patience
if so many schools think you are good enough to be called for an interview, at least one of them will think that you are good enough to be admitted
i know how frustrating it is, but keep faith in yourself

Hey chompers dont worry man, NYU has been known to let in peopl with lowww scores, i met a guy at the USC interview who got in with an 80 last year..but he got kicked out so he was trying for USC this school...(he got kicked out becuase of other matters not becasue of scholastic reasons!)....so dont worry we have a good shot...and there are a ton of seats,,,

Hi Denzel,

Dont feel bad about your score.Its a great score.So many people dont even clear in the 1st go.I think retaking the exam for 2005 is of no use.The only university left id NYU, and because they have about 600 applications or so they will review your application only in Dec.If they like you, they will call you no matter what your score is.I think the best thing to do is take your time and retake the exam.Dont rush into it.Spend about 4 0r 5 months in preparing, give the exam in June or July(they say paper based in always better) and then re-apply to all the schools early next year.

Trust me if they like you in NYU, they will call you with whatever score you have.

I really want to get into one of the five international DDS programs in CA as i love CA! and I am not sure how tough is it. since they extended the RT exams , do u think it will be easier to get in one of these schools, otherwise i will try NYU, please let me know as I am thinking of moving from east coast to CA , to try to get in one of the schools,
The bottom line is i want to live in CA, but I think NYU is the easiest place to get in, so what about the 5 scools in CA vs one school in NY?

yeah i dont think they will review your applicaiton twice in one year actually i'm almost 100 percent positive they wont but if u send in a new score and they ahve'nt already reviewd your app with your old score then mabye, but i dont think tehre is a point in rushing to get a new score to them, like i said you stand a good chance, i met a guy at the USC practical exam a month ago that was in NYU with an 80 last year...and yes they do have a lot of applicants but scores aren't AS important as an overall application that you have submittied for these two reasons
1. they have 120 seats so they dont have to be as subjective on scores as other places like cali schools which offer only 30 seats or so...
2. They are a three year program...i mean you are almost completing a whole dds course from scratch so it's not like ure getting off easy with a two year course you know? i think they take this into consideration knowing that if they put u thru a 3 year course, becasue their teaching skills are so good you may end up a better dentist than when u began....meaning that scores dont really matter in the long term, dentistry is an artform and the more u can do with your hands the better of you will be...dont lose hope at all...look NYU is my last chance as well , i have an 84, 300, and 3.75...got a call from USC but got rejected cuz i didnt' do well in the practical (wasn't prepared at all i just graduated !!!)...so dont lose hope..we are all hangin in there buddy...

This year you have only NYU as your choice, and like i said before if they like you they will call you with your present score , so dont worry about it.

The competition is getting harder everywhere, the east coast or the west.If you want to try for next year, then you should take it slow and repeat the exam.Get a good score and then apply to all the schools.

NYU is a very good program but they have a 2 year 9 month program, and i did hear a rumour that they are reducing the number of years, but you would have to call them and confirm.NYU is also very expensive, but so are schools in the west coast.

I think you should just NYU a shot with the score you have right now.If you get in that would be great, but just in case you dont, give your exam again and try to the west coast next year.

Like most of the Indian universities our university doesn't issue degrees before 2-3 years of passing. I have graduated last year, and at this time I have only a provisional degree. NYU is not considering my application without a copy of actual degree.

Does anyone have any idea how I can handle this issue?

did u email amy ureself first and ask her when the interviews would be or did she just email u herself? also when did u send in your application..because i got an email about a month after i sent in my application and it said that the interviews would begin in jan and that we would be notified by mail is this the same email u got?
