I know SOMA is practically a new school. I'm thinking about applying there (Im from Texas) and I wanted to know how many out of state students they accept??

I cant seem to find stats anywhere ..any facts on average GPA and MCATs?

thanks

I'd say the inaugural class had ~10 students out of 107 from Arizona. The majority of students were from the West Coast but there were a number of students from other regions as well. Since SOMA feeds into 11 different CHCs across the country it attracts a wide group of students. In general, few DO schools have in-state preference b/c they're mostly private schools.

a few questions about this school:

as said, it feeds into CHC (community health center) which you go to after the 1st year? So is this a school or another learning area? why do they do this?

anyone have any average GPA or mcats of the accepted?

how much is tuition per semester?

CHC:
The CHC is a medical center (or centers) and its affiliate hospitals. Each CHC has a classroom in it for SOMA students.

Why:
We spend 3 yrs experiencing "contextual learning" at the CHC. The logic behind this is that students retain information better if they see it in action rather than solely relying on books. The CHCs were selected because they provide grassroots primary medical care to underserved populations. It is the mission of the school to produce physicians who will fill the shortage in this niche.

GPA & MCAT: Not sure.

Tution: ~$36,000

That's a brief explanation and I'm sure that some of my classmates could provide a more eloquent description. Here's some links to check out:
