Your lecturers must take real long pauses or say Ummm....for long periods of time.
I can do it with two professors. They talk very slow. Most other ones I'm around 2x.

After podcasting literally every single lecture from MS1... the fastest I was ever able to go was 2.5 for one specific professor, and 2.0 for most others. 3x is insane.

I'm a big Hemingway fan, but he is a terrible role model. He was an alcoholic who had 4 wives and committed suicide. Artistic genius, but terrible role model.
I cant really argue with you, because we would just babble around. I think Hemmingway is rolling around in his grave knowing you call him "artistic", just doesnt sit well.
Arkengloid needs to learn some principles and those are not fed by some therapist.

Challenge accepted

I feel like you'd be into policy debate then if you have those super fast ears. I didn't debate policy but I'm not even sure if the people can even understand what their competitors are saying. I have 0 idea how the judges understand and between the weird breathing sounds it's just like a facepalm IMO.

LOL this one makes it look even sillier than it ends up being IRL.

Every specialty interest group gives out free pizza, so yeah free lunch everyday.

I talked to a few people today.

There is a girl but, I don't have time for that
Bro, with that attitude it won't matter whether or not you have time for them, because you'll never have them in the first place. If you're interested in her, give it a shot.

Nice excuse kid. More like you're scared

When are you going to have more time than m1? Residency? Lol

He's talking about talking to the girl. You have an exam every 3 weeks. So? You're not studying 24/7.

So what you're saying is that you have plenty of time to study and have time to warm up your bed too

We have tests like every week.

I still get busy. Same goes for a lot of my single friends.

Sure, I could finally get laid this year. There are a couple girls where there is mutual attraction, but knowing me, i'll find some reason to keep everybody at arms length

Studying, 😱

More party talk.

I like to party from time to time. You know, get a bunch of people together, sit around a big table, and talk about various diseases and their respective treatments. Sometimes we'll ask each other questions to try and clarify certain concepts, or complain about different professors and confusing lectures. It gets pretty wild.

Is that before or after naked Twister?

Do you really think that's a good idea?
Of course not, at some point im gonna have to trust people enough to let them REALLY get to know me. This includes dating, making close friends, etc right now I just have aquaintances

And it's better to make that some point sooner than later.

or just never and remain Batman for your whole med school career.
Hey now Batman has trusted confidants. But i doubt EMDO2018 has Alfred, Robin, or Oracle.

ughh I don't have a butler, nor do I really have a sidekick, but I have something that kinda compares to a crappy oracle on my laptop, so that works. med students go crazy for basic programming crap. you take a basic voice recognition program and they lose their minds

Go away! Baitin!

wtf is that, debate? someone got the idea of timed debate too far, timed debates are just a way to keep things fair, not to outspeed your opponent, what's the point of debating if you cant convey your idea, that is speed speaking not debating. Debating involves lot of thinking, strategy and mental fortitude not just reading.

eh competitive debate is a bit different. I guess they can understand each other enough to make rebuttals but I still am not really sure how

I can only do 1.25x-1.5x. I've always sucked at understanding fast talkers, though.

They will sing songs of the day that Ark the Clever defied odds and expectations yet again and forced one of the hardest exams in his medical career to take it in the ass from his gargantuan manhood.

And if I ever see another patient with exertional dyspnea, fever, malaise, abnormal ABG, etc, it will be too soon.

The hell are you even talking about you haven't even started clinicals yet

And ark the Clever not only sounds lame but it doesn't describe you at all

I think he means the patients in the vignettes.

@Arkangeloid sounds like you did well on your pulm test. Congrats. Keep getting after it.

Eh, it's Friday. I was just doing practice exams and am taking a break. But I need to stay confident.

Fear cuts deeper than swords.

So far med school has been like this for me:

MS1 - If you're not partying or relaxing every friday night, you're doing something wrong.
MS2 - You begrudgingly start studying on fridays, but still party or relax when possible
MS3 - If you don't work the next day, party or relax on friday to cope with the bs you gotta put up with...
MS4 - We shall see..

Alright--- 2 huge exams on Friday studying till I die. Ever other specialty interest group had their meeting on campus, the psychiatry interest group had their meeting in a bar down town, a heavy metal band played afterwards . I think I love those people. Having no time to masturbate makes you make bad decisions. I really hate gross anatomy.

obviously they do, there are just some attendings that are more consult-happy than others I guess

like, they would consult you for any lip lac? Not just limited to intra-oral stuff?

Wut

stupid M1s taking up all the parking. we had a mandatory class today, which was the first time I was at school all week and of course the lecturer goes 30 min over. kill me now

Ya because residency is soooooooo much easier than medical school.

The Q3 call is soooo easy and staying up all night running trauma after trauma is cake.

Watching children come in as trauma victims? Just saw a toddler who was involved in a hit and run and half her brain ended up on the sidewalk, but yeah soooo easy compared to medical school. I feel sooooo bad for all you med students and your little tests. That micro exam during my second semester was way harder than this.

Getting chewed out by attendings on a regular basis? Easy compared to that biochem midterm during 1st year.

If you are already crying over tests during med school, then I have no idea what you guys are gonna do during residency where you are actually responsible for patients and nobody gives a s*** about your little feelings.

Reading this makes me appreciate my dad more, for not royally fuc*ing me up. I'm sorry that's happening to you, however meaningless that might be.

If this is the case, maybe it's not a good thing. I'm hardly the first one to suggest it though, and it's not likely to change due to my whimpering on the internet.

I hope things get better for you, it sounds like they suck a lot right now.

That was like 35 different ideas jumbled together in a hastily written comment. Whoah.

Why do you (we all) hate ED? I was strongly considering this specialty, but maybe there is something I don't know?

All my knowledge is second hand, but most people hate having work handed to them. In the case of the ED, a lot of work goes out.

There are also incompetent ED docs who waste a lot of time. If the ED doc is competent, you probably won't hear from them as much. Seems like it would create a selection bias for hearing a lot from lazy, ****ty ones. If the whole department is crap, it's even worse.

What's more, you don't get to see a lot of the good things that do get done...because the patients are no longer there. People outside the ED also get to monday-morning quarterback them into oblivion.

So even if they're good, you only get work from them. If they aren't good, you get even more work from them, and what's been done is done poorly.

The good news is, the EM people don't seem to give a damn.

Like 1/4 of my class is in the Emergency med interest group. Between that and Ortho it's probably 95 % of the class.

I've never understood why so many people liked emergency medicine.

Lol, just random thoughts of my day. First, Im studying so much right now that I hate gross anatomy, we have a written test and a practical Friday. I took a break and went to the psychiatry interest group meeting today, which was in a bar. I like the psych residents though, a LOT more than I like the surgery residents. Lastly, when you're stressed out don't have time to sleep or masturbate as much, you make really bad decisions

It's up for debate, but posting this was probably one of those decisions.
