Does anyone have any idea how many applicants end up scrambling for IM spots?
I've seen last year's list of unfilled spots and was wondering what the competition would be like on scramble day for programs with, for eg., one spot left.

Here are the match results for the year 2005, but this data is for all specialties. I imagine internal medicine is at least as favorable as the following:

19,234 applicants (79.7%) matched and 4,901 (20.3%) did not match, but this is for all applicants (includes foreign medical graduates, D.O.'s etc).

For US seniors from allopathic schools, 12,975 (94.7%) matched and 726 (5.3%) did not match.
