Log into NRMP.org, then go to "my reports" at the bottom on the left side, then click on the "regional maps" of unfilled spots by specialty.

A fellow class mate has to scramble. Looks like 16 spots in EM open. Also a bigger class overall with a total of ~1550 spots total.

That would explain the 8 Northeast spots.

Yeah, it shows them in the SAEM catalog as starting this year. Why would a program do this, or is it simply that they received accreditation too late to participate in the match, but still wanted a class for the new year?

Ditto. I matched (THANK GOD)! But i wish all of those who did not the best. If anyone knows the names of the programs that didnt fill, i would love to see them...

Let's see if I remember. Nevada-Las Vegas, Puerto Rico, Staten Island, Methodist (NYC), and Michigan (was it Dearborn?)

Yes, Sparrow was the program with 4 of it's 9 spots in the scramble. As I mentioned before, all of the programs this year (maybe with exception of puerto rico) with unfilled positions did not have any unfilled positions last year. A suprise this year was that a west coast program had unfilled positions which has not happend in awhile (to my recollection).

Wonder what's up with Sparrow? That's two years in a row with several open spots. Lansing can't be all that bad.

I assume that they have a strict requirement of being fully fluent in spanish. I would ask for that if I was a PD in a program at U of Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico has spots open often in the scramble from my experience the last few years and most of that I assume is because they might not be able to find enough fully fluent spanish speakers that are also qualified candidates for that particular specialty.

There are plenty of ED docs that speak fluent Spanish, but how many of them want to live in Puerto Rico?
