I applied to a lot just b/c I put some pretty big academic places on my list, so I needed to make sure that I had some programs that were nice, but also realistic just in case. . . ..

I applied to 27 total. I did well on both steps, but my basic science grades weren't the best and I don't have any research. I was concerned that my board scores might not be enough to carry me, so I applied to alot. I now realize it was way too many. But I'm glad to have lots of interviews to choose from 👍

I'm going to guess that this poll is slightly skewed since the people who check this website more frequently (like me🙂) are probably the type to apply to A LOT of programs, "just in case." From asking around, the majority of OB/Gyns I've talked to applied to about the low 20s. 32 for me, and now I realize that was absolutely ridiculous. Wish I had saved the money, but didn't want to cheat myself either and I had no idea. Live and learn.

Not sure if you all realize that the ERAS application fees and expenses for interviewing are tax deductible, so you get the mula back 🙂 Save your receipts and have a tax professional do you taxes next year once you are a resident. You can claim in on next years taxes instead of this one, since most of us don't have an income right now.

15 applied to, 15 interviews, will go to 8

couple matching and we applied to too many programs that were just appealing by reputation but really not an area of the country we'd really go to. stupid

My excuse for going 21 was cause as well all know medical student are all loaded and I kinda of felt sorry for poor old ERAS ... besides...I did not get a chance to get to the gym and so decided to give the flexor digitorum profundus suppling the second digit a workout !!

i originally applied to 27 then i got scared in mid Sept. about interviews and i added more. then the invites started coming. however, out of the extra 7 i applied to, i got 4 invites out of those. btw, i am single and i applied almost everywhere (urban mostly).

How many interviews are you guys planning on going to? I think I'm gonna cap it at 12.

I have 9 scheduled and am holding out for 1 more. I am capping it at 10.

I have 13 interviews now and I have a couple I could cancel, but I do not really know how to go about doing this? email? call? I don't know, I don't want to offend anyone. Any suggestions?

I'll probably go on 15-18 because most of mine are in the midwest and I have two months off to interview. Basically I'll just drive around in the midwest for 1 month and then save the out of the midwest for January. Of course if a great out of state place comes up in Dec. I'll cancel some of the others that I'm not to serious about.

If you are going to cancel, call the program coordinator sooner rather than later, so they can fill the spot with someone else who wants it. Good luck folks! I look forward to meeting some of y'all when you come to visit Wake.

Hi guys,

I am driving myself insane because I need some advice and I don't know what to do. I have an interview to Baystate/Tufts. The program looks amazing and they offered me an interview early on. So, I then got an interview to UIC and that is the day after. the program is not as amazing, but the price would be cheaper to go to UIC ($50)than to Baystate($450). What do I do? I am trying to move to the west coast and have interviews in arizona and california and chicago and ohio a total of 13 so far. And I know that I am going to rank my california and arizona interviews first...should i cancel my baystate interview? Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would argue that the cost differential in the interviews you've mentioned won't really matter in four years. Consider hitting the interview trail as an investment in your future. I know that you are planning on going to California, in which case neither UIC nor Tufts is in your plan. Don't be afraid to cancel interviews that aren't "for you". You can either do some of the narrowing down now or after you've done a ton of interviews. If you are still undecided, I would pick the program where you can imagine yourself living and that suits your educational goals, irrespective of the reputation of the program. I feel your pain as I've been forced to make these decisions myself. Good Luck!

to those applying through the couple's match: how many programs did you apply to? how many invites did each of you get that were compatible for the couple's match? how many interviews did you each go to?

i'll be matching OB/GYN and he'll be matching IM. thanks!
