How Many Schools Is Everyone Applying To?

Just wondering how many schools everyone is thinking of applying to. Right now, I'm at 20 plus MCG (Georgia school - doesn't use AADSAS). There's a pretty hefty price tag on applying to that many, but considering my stats, I'll need to take every chance I can. Here's my list so far:

I'm taking my DAT's in a couple of weeks, been scoring in the 19-21 range AA, and around the same for PAT.
Overall GPA : 3.1
Science GPA : haven't calculated it totally yet, but def. LOWER that overall, probably somewhere around a 2.8 - 3.0

Any advice as to schools I should add or drop considering my stats?
 
I think I'm going to apply to 30, but I'm trying to cut it down a bit. My GPA is okay and I haven't taken the DAT yet, but I'm a non-traditional student - having worked in entertainment for 10 years after college and now deciding to be a Dentist. I don't want to have to apply more than once and I'm willing to relocate anywhere. So I figured I should just roll the dice and hopefully I'll have some schools to choose from rather then no choices at all.
 
Just one for me - Minnesota. It's my home state and I'm going for the EDP. I also am applying after soph year and I don't think other schools would even consider me.
 
I'm shooting for 15-20.

If you apply to many schools, does that look bad? Can admissions teams see how many schools you applied to? I originally had like 23ish, but i cut it down to like 18 schools. Do you guys know if applying to other state schools is even worth it as an out of state candidate? I dont have stellar stats, so I am thinking it is pointless for most.
 
You can def. apply to out-of-state schools that are private - they have no preferential treatment for resident applications. However, most public schools are usually required by their charters/laws to designate a large portion of their seats to in-state applicants. Obviously, some are better than others. I found it useful to check out PreDents.com and each school's own website to see what their policy and previous statistics are in terms of in-state vs. out-of-state attendance.
All the schools I listed in the original post are pretty open to out-of-state applicants with the exception of MCG, which only takes applicants from GA.

First off it says you are Pre med and this is the Pre Dental forum.... If you are pre Dental I can tell you that applying to many schools is NOT looked down on. I had a few interviews where people saw how many schools i applied to (20) and say wow you aren't messing around. As far as applying to other state schools...... it all depends on what there policy is for out of state students..... Get the ADA books on dental schools it will tell you last years stats so you can see how many out of state applicants were accepted. It can also give you the average GPA and DAT scores. Be smart when you apply if you want to take a risk on a few schools that you doubt you will get into go ahead, but make sure you have most of your schools be ones that you have a reasonable chance to get into.
 
I'm canadian, and applying to 14. Definitely don't feel like getting rejected again this year.
 
i'll be applying to 12-15. haven't finalized the list just yet.
 
12 for me. i'm feeling paranoid tho... i don't feel too confident on my stats.. but we'll see how things go. gl with your apps! ithe number of schools you're applying to sounds about rite. it wouldn't hurt you kno?

It could be 13 if I add the new Californian school.

based on my stats i have 29. i need to go down. i'm narrowing it down by # of acceptance for out of state. here is my list. any suggestions?
i applied last year. but didn't get in.
i have more that 6 years of experience in the field and i'm very driven. the reasons i think i didnt get in: have not finished my major + DAT. i am taking it again. i want to know if there are any schools in my list that don't accept out of state. so, here is the list:

This list looks a bit too long. Why so many state schools? You could be setting yourself up for disappointment. Cut down on schools that will not accept out of state. Add more private schools. Use private schools as schools to fall back on if state schools don't pan out. Most of the schools in your list should be private since a lot of state schools will be very tough to get in unless you have stellar stats.

I applied to 23 last year. I probably over did it but it was nice to be able to turn down interviews and only take the ones that I really wanted to go to. its also a lot different seeing the school and talking with students as opposed to looking in the adea guide and picking schools that way. some of the schools i thought i would love.. i hated and vice versa
 
I was going to apply to 4 but I had no clue how many people normally applied to. Now I'm scared! Maybe I should apply to more! But I really don't want to move out of New England. NY would be okay, I guess, so maybe I'll apply to schools there.
 
You're applying to too few schools if you're not applying to 54 schools. That's what it takes to get in.
 
I applied to a lot of schools last cycle. My batting average was atrocious but who cares as long as I have 1 acceptance it became a success.👍
