I need some input.

I plan on taking the DAT mid to late July, and currently have a:

3.873 cum GPA
3.845 science GPA
3.810 BCP GPA
3.951 non-science GPA

How many schools should I apply to? My top choice as of now is Marquette, and I am a Wisconsin resident, but I can't just apply to one school. So how many do you think I should apply to? Thanks

10 to be on the safe side. 8 if you are being realistic. 5 if you are daring.

Thanks for the response Quack.

How does this list sound?
  • Marquette
  • ASDOH
  • Minnesota
  • Nova
  • UNC
  • Case
  • UConn
  • Indiana
  • UoP
  • UPenn

I almost choked on my drink as I read the 4 year costs for UoP, Penn, and UConn. My plan would be to then apply to these programs, but priority would be placed on Marquette, or the cheapest alternative.

UoP is 3 years my friend. 🙂

You may want to add the private schools that offer full rides too - your grades are good enough - who knows, maybe you'll get a scholarship!

I know NYU and Penn offer scholarships, I think there was an earlier thread that listed schools with scholarships.

It's still a lot of money keibee 😛 .

Thanks for the suggestion Cymbidium. That's the main reason i haven't slacked. I was hoping there was some full ride scholarship that I would be competitive for. I am also a URM (Mexican-American), I don't know if there are any minority scholarships. Thanks though.

Looks good. But I would consider adding one or 2 more private schools instead of public ones. 🙂

And, have you taken your DATs yet?

Quack are you re-applying this year?

Yeah I am. I boosted my GPA and added more extracurriculars. Hopefully I will get in somewhere this time.

They look favorably on reapplicants, right?

Sounds good. Thanks

I'd like to get some input too. My GPA is 3.3 and I'll be taking the DAT next month. I've done some extracurriculars, http://www.predents.com/?page=user&user_id=1925 but it seems like DAT and GPA matter most.

I'm planning on applying to:
Boston University
Case Western Reserve University
Marquette University
New York University
Nova Southeastern University
Tufts University
University of Detroit Mercy
University of Pennsylvania
Creighton University
University of the Pacific
University of Southern California
Loma Linda University
Howard

Thanks.

Wow... stellar extracurriculars. I'm kind of ashamed of myself now.

My GPA is 3.54/4.0 overall, probably around a 3.3-3.4 science GPA. I have decent experience in shadowing, research, and other extracurriculars. Some weak points are that I got a C in organic chem 2, and i usually only took 12-14 hrs per semester (but they consisted of at least 2/3 science courses each semester, if that matters). I plan on taking the DAT Aug 8th, but hopefully that isn't too late. Do you think I am applying to enough schools? Or should I think about applying to a few more? Thanks for your help!

List of schools I plan on applying to (I am an IL resident):

Univ. of Illinois at Chicago
Southern Illinois Univ.
Marquette
Univ. of Mich - Ann Arbor
Boston Univ.
New Jersey
Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health
University of Southern California
Case School of Dental Medicine
