I know it's early to stress about this, especially since I have 6-7 interviews to go but how many should I rank? What's the typical you've heard people rank peds programs? So far of my 7 interviews I plan on only ranking 4.

Entertain yourself, rank them all, unless you are totally against going to a particular place. It can't hurt.

I haven't finished interviewing either but I'm planning on ranking all but one of my ten interviews. I'd rather end up at any of the places I've interviewed (except that one) than scramble and end up in the middle of nowhere.

I've got to disagree here. Where you spend the next three years is a really big decision and what I keep hearing over and over again is if you don't want to go somewhere don't rank it. Sure scrambling is not exactly an ideal way to end the match season, but people in the past have done very well scrambling (especially in a less competitive field like pediatrics) and at least you can make sure you end up somewhere you are happy I'd say that's worth the stress in the end.

I think Chesney is right that you could possibly end up at a very good program by scrambling but you also must think about your own personal geographic wants and needs. I worry that if I scramble I may not end up in the part of the country I want to be in and that is more important to me as long as I think I can be relatively happy at a program.

Thanks for the responses. I worry because I don't have the best grades during basic science years and not great board scores. 3 of the 4 programs I want to rank are university based (not top tier but good programs). I'm excited about the (gasp) next six interviews I have so hopefully I'll like them all and can rank them all comfortably. I'm scared about having to scramble since I have an 11 year old to think about but also don't want to end up miserable at one of the 3 programs I won't rank. Maybe I'm too picky. What's the lowest you've heard an AMG going down on their rank list before they matched?
