About how much is it to apply to a school? I was thinking of applying to around 7-10, but I'm thinking I should do a little more than that. Problem is the cost, though that could be overcome if I become a juggalo I suppose.

...if I become a juggalo I suppose.

Why would that help?

a lot. you gotta pay a certain amount to send your AMCAS application to each school (I applied to 18 shcools and spent about $800) and then secondary fees range from $75 to $200 a piece.

Then, if you get interviews you have to factor in cost of travel.

All in all, expect to spend well over $1000

You should be able to google this...

MCAT - $230 (then whatever practice tests your order and review books you buy).
First school through ACMAS - $160.
Additional schools - $32 each.
AACOMAS application fees - http://www.aacom.org/InfoFor/applicants/Documents/Instructions.pdf
Secondaries range from about $30 to $130. Some schools actually don't have fees for the secondary, I don't think, but they're not any I'm applying to, and I think G-town is the most expensive at $130.

You'll also need to buy yourself a suit and travel/lodging for interviews.

Do the math.

I spent a little over $2,500 in the entire application process (MCAT, AMCAS, secondaries, interviews) and I only applied to 11 schools. While it may be tempting to scale back the number of schools to which you apply (I cut my list down from 16 schools to 11), unless you're a stellar applicant, I would consider it to be very risky to apply to less than 10 schools. If you underapply and walk away without acceptances, you'll have to spend a large sum of money next year in addition to what you spend this year. If you can't afford to apply to a good number of schools, I would consider getting a part time job. Do it right the first time.

investment so far....

$1500 for MCAT course
$230 for MCAT
$50 to delay MCAT
$5 to send transcripts
$575 to AMCAS

total...$2,360

applying to med school... not priceless

People freak out about this. I think that I might have spent a couple thousand dollars not just on apps but also cross-country trips for interviews. Flying cross-country 3 times costs money. But if you think about it, applying is such a small amount compared to how much you're going to spend on med school. That's about $60k to $70k a year and average debt of $200k. Clearly, your application fees are nothing compared to how much medical school costs. Just go into it with the mentality that you won't see a penny for at least 8 years (residency pays horrible).

Wow. How do most people pay for this? It's going to completely empty my bank account.
