How much time are you giving them? I'm not interested in giving three months - I think that takes any sense of urgency away. Do you think two weeks is too little? (I don't, but I want to hear other opinions!)

Yes I would say two weeks is too little. About 4 weeks is what it took my recommenders.

I think it is better to give your references as much time as possible. The less time you give them, the ruder the request seems in my opinion. I gave my references two months, with a built-in buffer of an additional two months just in case.

Two of mine only took about 2 weeks, but the third I gave about 2 months, asking her how it was coming along about every 3 weeks or so.

about 3 to 4 weeks

I went with a month. Both my recommenders got their letters in within two weeks, but you never know what your recommenders may have planned. They could be going to a conference or going on vacation, etc. in those two weeks you need that letter. Give them as much time as possible!

I had a timeline of a month but after the first two weeks I checked up on all three(bio teacher, pharmacist, and anatomy prof.) and kept tabs on them to make sure it would get done in time.

be sure to give lots of time as professors get busy this time of year, I asked my professor before school started and asked two pharmacists early in october to give them plenty of time
