I have finished with my 1st year of college. I have gone through kaplan videos. I am nowadays doing LWW simulated Q bank for anatomy, physio,nd neuro. I have been scoring 40% in those. Do you think it is just natural to score this low or is it ok to score this mark. Though i got a year befor i sit for the boards. Could this score be due to my lack of knowledge of 2nd year subjects.........
Well i am kind of zapped right now

i hope that by college you mean medical school. if you don't mind me asking, where do you go to school? are you an international student?
LWW qbank is kinda new, so it is difficult to comment on how difficult/representative it is, but if you are doing questions as you say (after doing kaplan videos, and only on anatomy, physio and neuro) then you should be hitting the 60-70% range in qbanks such as Kaplan Qbank or USMLEWorld. The fact that you haven't done path, pathophys or pharm yet should not affect your ability to answer anatomy or physiology questions.
also, what about biochemistry and molecular biology? have you started working on those subjects (b/c they are usually higher yield subjects compared to anatomy/physiology)?

well yup i am an international student. i am at a medical school in china.
i have kind of gone through the kaplan videos. i guess i got to do it seriously. i am planning not to do any biochem till before 6 months of actual exam. well today was the 3rd day for me doing the q book.
Do you think it would be a wise idea doing biochem later. i have done the molecular biology lectures from kaplan though but havent tested on them.

I think that you will be fine regardless of whether you do biochem now or later (as long as you allocate enough time for biochem, which is high yield). Just be thorough in your studying and don't lose hope because of a few low scores.

Good Luck

thanx for the response. i guess i will be ok with the score as i got time on my side. i planned to do biochem later as it is pure mugging up.
thanx once again

Yeah I am also a first year and fell the same about haveing more time. I am similar to your situation. I have been getting 70-80% on the Q-banks and am worried. I expect mysefl to be getting 90% at least. I guess I need to study more, within the next 1.5 years.

I hope this was a joke post but I'm too tired to check your post history

??? 😕 ???

70-80% on common qbanks (Kaplan, UWorld) would be knocking them out of the park... well, solidly over the fence at least. Carry that to the USMLE, and you'd probably rock it too.

But if you're just doing subject specific question sets as you go through particular courses, then like many others you might find that you "know" it well now, but might struggle to get 50% a year from now on random question sets covering year(s) old material.

Or maybe you're just a super gunner aiming to set the new USMLE record. 😀

I need at least a 250+ I am aiming for a competitive field. Alas I need to study over the summer too. (or do you think this is overkill?)

ps. What is the record for step 1?
