Hey all,

I just took AAMC 7, TPR said that AAMC 7+8 are a little bit harder than the current mcat but I was wondering if this is actually the case? Also I was wondering if anyone knew how old AAMC 7 is? I took 7 instead of say 9 because I'm saving the last 3 for the weeks prior to my test as I have the 9/9/10 test date. I took 7 to see where I was at.

My understanding was that the real MCAT is generally harder than AAMC 7-10, but with slightly better curves. Regardless, your score on those AAMCs are best predictors of your MCAT score, I have been told.

I have never talked to someone who said AAMC 7 was more difficult than the real MCAT. I think all of the passages for the AAMC practice tests come from before 2007.

the tests are very, very old. at least older than the first CBT, and likely several years older than that. i say that because you can find the physical copies of the tests on torrent sites that are based on the old mcat (85 min verbal 😱). and the new CBTs are simply chopped down versions of those. good luck!

I found all the AAMCs easier than the real deal.....

no clue how old it is but it probably is 5+ yrs old.....

True

I finished each AAMC with 10-12 minutes in each section remaining.

On the real deal I finished PS with 2 seconds remaining
VR I had to guess on 2 questions
BS - I finished with 4 minutes remaining

This is scaring me, since I normally finish the AAMCs with about 30 seconds left in every section!

Do others share Cramster's experience?

Say it ain't so (but don't lie to me 😛)!

EDIT: do you think that this could be because of different passage reading styles? I normally take my time and try to take the full passage in and understand all the details before I go to the questions. Is this not a good approach?

how would someone go about finding these torrents to download the old aamc tests?

isohunt (disclaimer: use of this website is not illegal, as it is not much more than a search engine [yes, google can also be used with the right search words], but downloading copyrighted content is)

Reading styles? I don't know about that. But the passages on my MCAT were longer and more convoluted.

Here's my thoughts....

The PS section is passage based but there are always some weird, convoulted passages I cant get fully. It may be I dont fully get Physics.....

Verbal was about a passage longer and more dense and convoulted...but the questions are easier to me.

The BS section is like another verbal section to me with just bio....I had some ochem but it was easy pts. It was harder than any passages I saw for the most except with the BR passages.

The real one I had to read more and think more and used alot more time....

oh dear. i had 33 mins left in the PS for AAMC 4 today...but then i got a 10 and wanted to punch myself in the balls for every stupid mistake (many, including 2 where i clicked the wrong bubble while thinking another). i guess i can't count on that happening for the real deal

Yea i would def. recommend a good ball punching for that.

When you guys look back, was the material on PS/BS on the real mcat much tougher than like AAMCs 7-10 or was it just nerves? I've read that some think the PS sections are much more passage based and require more time than say some passages on the practice exams. Any truth to that?

I've worked hard these past 2-3 weeks after making many dumb mistakes on aamc3-7, and scored 12,14,14 on PS and 13,11,12 on BS over the last 3 but I don't know if I should take every practice exams score (including the bad ones) as a grain of salt as anything good/bad can happen on test day
No its definitely harder. The practice exams always seem to test the same material. A lot of stuff on the MCAT simply comes way out of left field.

Really, don't sweat it too much though, there isn't really THAT much you can do about it. Just go and do your best, if you're well prepared and the exam is still hard to you, it will likely be hard to everyone else too.
