How reliable were the 150 free questions as far as prediciting your real score?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i did the 150 q's 3 days b4 i took the step 1, i got a 262 on the 150 free q's (figured that with the online step 1 calculator) got a 253 on the real thing. the 150 free are much easier than the real thing.

hmm ok. cuz that means u got a 91% on ur 150 free q's, but, hypothetically to correctly predict your exam an 87% would have been right on the dot for 253. so thats just a difference of a few questions, percentage wise and scorewise at least that seems like its pretty accurate. But you weren't talking about the score, you're saying the difficulty in general is a lot tougher on the real exam....how much harder is a reliable nbme practice exam? is that about the same difficulty as the free questions? Thanks for the reply, btw.

96% on 150 qs (somewhere around there, don't remember the exact # right now), ---/99 on the real thing. I thought the 150 q's were much easier than the real thing.

What I would like know even more is, is the real test of similar difficulty as the 150 free questions? Thanks!

Not. The free questions were easier than the real thing. Bear in mind that folks who will do well on the real thing will also do well on these easier questions. So the anecdotal "evidence" of the folks above who did well on both isn't going to demonstrate much. The for fee NBME tests are closer to the real thing, but as it suggests on their site, not a perfect way to guage how you will do to a specific percentage, beyond knowing vaguely if you are doing well or poorly.

according to medfriends.org, my 89% on free 150 correlated exactly with my 257 score on real thing. ?s were harder on real thing but not nearly as hard as qbank. Plenty of gimmes.

I didn't do NBME's (I know, I'm a weirdo), so it turned out that Free 150 predicted my score better than my QBank score or my MCAT. Take that as you will.
