How soon to write thank you note after job interview?

I was just wondering how soon would be appropriate to send a thank you note to an interviewer after a job interview? Should it be done the same day or is it ok to wait a day or so? Also can the note be sent as an email? Thx

For all job interviews I've had (some of which did actually land the job 🙂), I've sent an email the same day, as well as a snail-mail note to follow up. With the mailed note, I'd stick it in the mail either that same day or the next day.

Does it really matter? Maybe I'm ignorant, but I would imagine this would matter not at all.
