I know for certain dental schools, the adcoms are flexible with prerequisite courses. Does anyone here know if any osteopathic med schools employ a similar policy with respect to prereqs?

They tend to be firm in most of them. I mean how hard is it to take those courses?

Sometimes you can ask about substitutions... but you can't outright not take a course (unless you show it's scheduled but not complete).

Depends on the school... as far as I know, you need to have them all completed by day one of class.

This cycle I was 0.6 units short of 6 behavioral science credits (had 5.4 due to quarter system conversion), which is a requirement for some DO schools. I had no intention of taking another course just to get 0.6 behavioral science units done.

This did not seem to affect the admissions decisions at all; the three schools I got in to that had such a requirement told me the following:

One school was willing to take another course as a substitution.
One school said they'd waive it because it was less than 1 unit.
One school simply told me not to worry about it.

I was under the impression that they were pretty strict requirements, but this suggests that it is best to contact individual schools to see for sure.

+1 for contacting specific schools. Some schools aren't 100% inflexible. I know KCUMB is very strict on their genetics requirement in particular; any old genetics course, advanced or not, will not automatically count towards their requirement if it doesn't meet the specified details. I didn't realize this and thought I was ok with my advanced genetics course, but it didn't fly. 🙁

I was wondering the same thing about MCAT. I just really didn't want to take it.
