How to ace genetics?

So far during my upper higher biology courses, the most challenging for me is Genetics.

I don't know if it is because of the way that the book we use in the course is badly written or because I just suck at that specific course.

Any suggestion regarding acing and developing a clear understanding of genetics?

Hard.

And use youtube and other sources to get the details in.

Do lots and lots of practice problems. Ask your TA/prof about any problem that you do not get. Know the relevant vocab. Read the chapter before lecture. If the book does not make sense even after the lecture, google concepts that you don't understand.

I found youtube to be incredibly helpful for understanding some of the molecular mechanisms/machinery involved.

I would recommend not memorizing genetics but rather understanding it in steps. It helps me to draw out what's happening and label my drawings with steps.

If you're talking about Mendelian stuff then just memorize.

To understand the mechanics of genetics I would draw pictures, it helped me remember/understand what was happening.

Also, endless practice problems. Some of bio you can get away with minimal practice problems but genetics is not one of those classes.

^Definitely like this guy's ideas.

There are basic things that you just have to know, like what a gene sequence looks like visually, what the stop sequence is, etc.

But beyond that, mastery of the basic concepts and tons of practice problems is a good idea.
