There was a period in my undergraduate education where I withdrew halfway through spring semester and didn't come back the next semester either. So in total, including summer, I have 8-9 months that are not accounted for in my record. I never did poorly in school and I never did drugs or anything like that, it's just this seemingly random absence. Is this a red flag that I should address in the personal statement? I just needed time off from school, I didn't do anything clinically related or study abroad in Barcelona. I just "wasted" the time away. If you have any experiences with something like this please help!

This is not something you address unless specifically asked about, and then you simply tell the truth.

Do you have an entire term of W's because you withdrew from all your classes? If there was no other explanation, and no experiences over that 9 month period, I'd guess that the applicant was ill or injured and obtaining professional care during that time period. I've known two undergrads who had serious traumatic injuries that required that much time off for surgeries and rehab.
