Hi all,
I am an Illinois resident and UIC would be my top choice. I looked on their admission requirements and it seems very competitive. Besides the common pre-reqs, they state that they prefer applicants to have taken 3-4 higher level science courses. I have only taken Bio, Chem, Physics, Orgo and beginning Biochemistry so I am clearly behind in that regard. Do you know if they prefer UIC students? I am really wondering how I can make myself more competitive and tailor myself specifically to UIC. They do have an undergraduate dental research program but it appears that the deadline for that has passed. I would appreciate any advice because I'm pretty concerned.
Thanks.

Currently UIC only accepts IL residents. Beginning in the 2015-2016 cycle, they will allow OOS residents to apply. In state folks will still be highly prefered and will be selected accordingly. I highly doubt that the school will reserve an abundant amount of seats for OOS applicants.

You can make yourself more marketable by having a high GPA and DAT and bountiful amounts of ECs. What you lack in a particular area can be made up in another area to compensate if such a scenario is needed. And yes, you need to take much more than your basic prerequisites to compete with other applicants. Especially, in an era that has seen an unprecendented amount of competition.

UIC class of 2018 has a 3.69 average GPA and 20AA and TS.
