I was interested in knowing how to compute my grades to see what grades and how many I need to get a certain GPA after a year of postbac courses. How would I go about doing this?


Also, can one year of post bac classes ~ 20 credits raise my GPA .2 points?

Simply divide the credit hours earned (or expected) by the number of total credits credits.

Example:

Biology I = 4 credits. If you get an A, you get 16.0 credit hours.
Chemistry I= 4 credits. Lets say you get a C, which equals 8 credit hours.

4+4= 8 credits, divide that into 24= 3.0 GPA

If you want to know how many more credits and credit hours you need to get a certain GPA simply keep adding the appropriate credits and credit hours. Just keep in mind 3 and 4 credit classes have different credit hours depending on the grade you get.

Hi Exigente.

Ok, lets say you have a 2.8GPA with 120 semester hours....That means you have 2.8X120=336 quality points. Then take 20 hours of A's resulting in 20X4=80 quality points. Now you have 416 (336+80) and 140 hours. The new GPA = 416/140 = 2.97, so you got 0.17 of that 0.2 that you wanted...

Customize the formula to your position.

Now, I feel bad for being such an overacheiver in college and taking soo many credits..now I need to take more post bac classes to see a signifigant difference... 😡

Don't feel bad...I just figured out that even if I took 120 hours of all A work....I could only raise my GPA by a whopping 0.47 points.

That is, unless the powers that be would be generous enough to replace old grades with the new and improved ones for the calculation.

i'm in a very similar situation as well. i graduated college with over 120 credits at a pathetic gpa, so in order to get my cume gpa above a 3 would mean having to essentially be a full time undergrad for another 4-5 semesters, depending on the intensity of the courseload.

after i thought about it however, it would probably be a lot more efficient to give up on the idea of getting a 3.0 undergrad. Rather, i'm thinking i will rock one year of upper level science courses to show that i have improved, get a high mcat score, and then apply for an smp. i might not get by the initial screenings at some medical schools, but other factors should compensate.
