I have been researching the method for creating a school list. The only problem is that I feel this advice does not quite apply to me since I'm a reinventor student. I'm genuinely confused as to if I should be applying all DO or low/mid-tier MD and DO. What criteria should I be looking for when choosing schools?
cGPA: 3.27 (significant upward trend of ~90 credits @ 3.9)
AMCAS sGPA: 3.03
AACOMA sGPA: 3.33
MCAT: 514 (129/126/128/131)
NY Resident, strong ties to CA (undergrad and family)
White male
Small state liberal arts school
Clinical Experience:
New job as ED tech in rural hospital - will be working full time
~3,000 hours and counting as a chief scribe in an ED and currently a scribe in an Oncology/Hematology clinic
80 hours Volunteer EMT with the Red Cross Disaster Services - I'm doing this now, we are sent to national disasters (hurricanes, floods, wildfires, etc.)
50 hours as a "patient advocate" - worked with a local NGO to help disadvantaged community members receive healthcare
Volunteered as an EMT at a marathon
Research:
No Research - I just applied to a lab at UCSF looking for volunteers, no guarantees though
Shadowing:
No formal shadowing, just scribing in an ED and Oncology/Hematology
Non-clinical Volunteering:
200 hours crisis text line
50 hours as an Ochem supplemental instructor
50 hours EMR TA
1 month in Bali teaching English
<20 hours with Habitat for Humanity
Other Activities:
I run Ironmans (swim, bike, run)
I've traveled a bunch
Reading (don't know what happened with CARS)
Awards:
