hey guys,
for those who applied early decision to the med school of your choice, what brought you to the conclusion that "i need to apply ED?" I am contemplating applying ED next year, but then there's that whole thing about 'i kinda want to know where all i could go..'

So. if u guys could kinda walk me through the thought process...it'd be greatly appreciated.

before you apply EDP...meet with someone on the admissions committee to evaluate your application. Most school will advise you on if you should apply edp or not.

I think the reasons for going EDP are different for every person. Here's why I did it:

-I really didn't care very much about which med school I go to.
-I do really want to stay in the midwest
-my state school takes a lot of early decision applicatin (like 40 out of 175 total students per class)
-my state school also places a lot of emphasis on students who want to stick around in Kansas to practice (which I do)
-I wanted to enjoy my senior year w/o the stress of flying around to interviews while missing tests and work
-after talking to the admissions people, I knew I'd be competative for the EDP program

So after considering all of these things I decided to go for it. I got in (they emailed us decisions the DAY AFTER our interviews... how cool is that) and couldn't be happier. PM me or post here if you've got more questions.

i feel myself being in the same position you are. I'd be doing EDP to my state school (Univ. of Alabama-Birmingham), where my MCAT is right at, if not slightly above avearge, and my GPA as an engineer will keep my competitive. I am an out of state student at a private university right now, and the thuoght of paying 30k+ per year for 4 more years is just too much to handle. Especially when UAB is a top 25 med school and I get to be closer to my family and 4 years of med school would cost about the same as one year of my undergrad.
