What is the proper was to inform schools that you are declining their offer to attend? Some of the schools did not give a person to contact etc. Would a short letter to the office of admissions be fine? Just wanted to see what others are doing about this. Thanks!

I sent an email to the director of admissions when i had to do it. Make it professional. That way it is quick and painless while also allowing you to get confirmation that your message was received.

Send them a video tape of yourself... bin laden does that and it works every single time. jk 😛

Yeah you can send them an letter with your thoughts... be really courteous and thank them for the oportunity. Be simple and get to the point. You are just saying "no thanks", not doing a research paper.

Dude you're a freshmen in undergrad! What do you know about all this stuff? I see you posting everywhere with advice. The least you can do is say "i'm just a freshmen, but I'm been reading around and the consensus is that...". Don't make it seem like you've been through it all and you're telling everyone advice!

Just because Im a freshmen in undergraduate doesn't mean i dont know anything about dental school you ignorant ****. Grow up. When I give my advise to other people I am positive about it... and I try to be as helpfull as I can.

And nextime, if you dont have anything to say related to the thread, or you wanna say something directly to me, pm me ok, or keep your comments to yourself. thanks

Agreed. This fool doesn't even understand how to use proper grammar. Also, the OP is specifically asking for advice from people who have had experience declining an acceptance, so albino's comments don't mean much.

Why so negative? I wasn't cursing at you and so you shouldn't do that. That's just immature. I'm not trying to start a fight here, I'm just saying that people on here ask questions to those who have experience. It's not right of you to answer a question if you have no experience in it and take all the credit for the answer. I know what you are doing, I've seen you on all the other threads. You read through a thread and when a new thread opens up with the same question, you answer it without giving credit to those people who originally asked the question in the other thread. That's not cool.

In FA's defense, writing a "thanks but no thanks" letter doesn't take a college education.

As with anything posted on the internet, you have to take things with a grain of salt. What someone says on the internet may or may not be true. Frederico was correct in the advice he gave. Maybe he learned it from someone else and wants to share the knowledge. Don't bash the guy for trying to help. If we were to cite every source for every fact we learned, we wouldn't be speaking a single sentence without quoting someone. We are all here to learn. Let's make it a friendly environment and not discourage others from posting here.

This is ridiculous. I wasn't "bashing him". HE started bashing me! he called me an ignorant **** for simply saying that he should make it known to the OP that he's a freshmen and that he gets his info from other threads. Glad to see that the mods don't mind someone calling another person on this forum an ignorant ****, way to go! 👍

First of all... i wouldnt have said anything if you didnt oclor...
nextime keep your comments to yourself... and as you see... i am pretty sure I gave a helpfull advise to the OP, and thats what I tried to do.
You said that I haven't been through it but that doesnt mean I dont know about it... "did you know how to post on forums before you came to SDN?" Answer would probably be yes. So nextime dont try to active like you know everything and stop telling other poeple what to do if they havent been through what you have.

Edit. And no I'm not going to start saying " "i'm just a freshmen, but I'm been reading around and the consensus is that...".
Good luck trying to get other poeple to say that over the internet. I joined this forums because I want to be a dentist and I wanted to find helpfull information as soon as possible, so I would know what to do when the time came. I have learned alot here, and I am sharing what I know with everyone else. By looking at SDN, it gave me a lot of information that I didnt know before. Classes/schools/application... now its easier... I tell alot of my friends about this website and the sonner you find about it the better. Take me for example... im just a freshmen... but gosh I would have made several mistakes if I didnt know about this site... from this website I found out that I can apply to dental school as soon as I have most of my pre-reqs from... before I thought that I needed a bachelor's.
My point is that, we are all here for the same reason, it doesn't matter where you are (pre-dental,dental, or dentist). This is a great resource and a website that has good information. There are lots of people looking at this site... people in different steps of their life... but when it comes to information and this website, we are all the same. We just want to know as much as possible. Knowledge is power and it doesnt matter if you're in middle school or a ph.D, if you come to this site and ask questions, you're going to get at least a few helpfull answers (or should I say positive answers 😛), and that's what I tried to do.

Another edit. axum, i have difficulty with grammar because english is not my first language, im trying my best.

A written letter is appropriate, along with an email to the dean if you correspond with him that way. I usually correspond via email to the dental schools I have interviewed at, but a written hard copy is good too, just in case your email gets overlooked. You want to make sure the next guy in line gets a chance to have that spot, you know?

umm.. cough. topic.
I sent an email to the dental admissions contact that I had (either a person's email or the generic dentaladmissions@university et cetera)

I used the same one for 4 schools, just changing the name. Include why you chose another school (and maybe which one) and your aadsas id#

Actually... you were bashing him. I'm just giving my opinion on the matter. If we were all standing around in a room, and you made your "Dude you're a freshman" comment to someone who was trying to help, everyone in the room would start feeling pretty damn awkward around you.

I understand where you're coming from though. One time I was snorting lines of cocaine* at my house, and my little brother** came up to me and told me that drugs will ruin my life. I punched him in the face and he ran away crying while I said "Dude, what do you know? You're only a little kid." Haha, my brother was TOTALLY trying to sound like he had experience with drugs. If he told me from the get go that an adult gave him this information, I would have been nicer to him. Stupid kid!

*For the record, I've never done cocaine in my life.
**Also, I don't have a little brother

Out of respect for the OP and the reason for this thread, I've PM'd Frederico so that we don't hijack this thread. Please keep your sarcasm and whatever else out of this and just try to answer the OP's question. Thanks.

Most schools want a hard copy of you withdrawing yourself so you can either mail them a letter or email them.
