Hello future dentists,

Let's talk 2016 cycle. What makes a modern pre-dent strong in the eyes of these saught after schools? Please share what you know, or what your stats are. Best of luck to you all!

What does it take to be a strong candidate?

  • AA
  • TS
  • PAT
  • BIO
  • OCHEM
  • CHEM
  • RC
  • QR
• Shadowing
  • How many dentists?
  • Hours?
• Letters
  • How many?
  • Which professors?
  • Leadership letter/committee letter
• Leadership/Volunteering

• Personal statement

From what I understand a strong GPA range is 3.6--3.9
A good range is 3.45----3.6
Weak anything below the above, science GPA should be as close to the overall as possible.

A normal DAT would be a 18,19,20.
A sought after strong score is 21 and up, these are hard to get and require lots of work.

Getting 15 in all sections or higher is key as that's the average cut off per section for most schools.

A high AA is #1 then TS #2 and finally PAT #3.

Shadowing, I don't know...I have a few hundred hours with several dentists. Spent time as a dental intern and such.

Letters, bio or chem p, get two separate ones, and possibly a service related or leadership related one.
Get them in advance and respect the professor and build relations before they write.

I got loads of serving and leadership to show what my passion is and that's helping people and is the souls of dentistry.

Work the personal statement after everything above is over. Then you have experience to draw upon as you write.

Apply early as possible.
