Hello! My primary is all submitted, and I figured I'd use the verification gap to determine which schools to apply to...and I'm seeking your help lol

When all is said and done with this med school journey, I am truly not that interested in seeing patients on a day-to-day basis..however, to get those letters after my name, I'm obviously going to have to do all sorts of clinical work and I may even change my mind about my fondness for patient interaction.

Right now, I'm very interested in the science of diagnosis, pathology, and whatever else is related to that. I've done plenty of shadowing in this department and I think it fits me well. When looking for med schools to apply to, should I consider my current interests to narrow down some choices? I know people say, "Oh, well there's the research schools and then there's the primary care schools" and I feel like I should fit into one of those categories...? Thanks for the insight.

Narrow down your school list based on GPA / MCAT / Residency requirements first. There's little point in applying to schools that "fit" you if you're not competitive with their general applicant pool.

Then focus on fit (research vs. primary care, rural vs. urban, etc.).
Check out the school's mission.
See what percentage of their students go into the field of your interest.

You can enter your field of interest from any med school in the country. It is the residency program that prepares you for your career goals.
