So I need some advice and information on how to get into medical school - what are some basic prequisite classes, important extracurriculars, summer experiences, etc. etc. I'm currently a sophomore.

Up until this point I've been planning to go to vet school, but this semester I would like to be exposed to some medical school experiences before I make a final decision on what to do with my future.

What kind of experiences do you need to be a competitive applicant for med school? What's the difference between job shadowing and internships and which is the better option for being accepted to med school?

As you might've guessed, I have virtually no clinical experience regarding human medicine and am basically starting from a clean slate (although I have finished some of the core science classes such as biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics). Since this is the case, I would like to advice on what I should focus on if I want to get into medical school by the time I graduate.

I would also like some information about the MCATs as well as I have had no intention whatsoever of taking the MCATs until this semester. What counts as a "good" MCAT score? How important is it in the decision process?

Thanks for all the help!

If you took lab with organic chemistry then it sounds like you're done with all the prerequisites. A good MCAT score (which is very important) is around 30+. As for extracurriculars, you want 100 hrs of clinical volunteering at least, sone non clinical volunteering, and preferably a bit if research

Read SDN regularly. Read people's profiles on mdapps. etc

I'm already in med school and that book made me feel intimidated.

Also, just curious, do people think premed is a good sounding title? I always thought it was kind of a scarlet letter. Maybe I just spend too much time on here..

Depends on the school. If you go to a "feeder" school, then yeah, it's a scarlet letter. But if for whatever reason your college doesn't have many pre-meds, then you'll get a "thats cool" and your professors won't groan when they hear "med school" and "letter of rec".

And as the article said, it sounds great for mommy, daddy and friends that their snowflake will be saving lives, get rich and be world renowned 🙄

I can honestly say I've never uttered the words. Frankly I think it's a stupid thing to call yourself
