How to Make Money as a Doctor outside of seeing patient

I went to a drug rep dinner and a urologist was there promoting Levitra and saying it was better than Viagra and blah blah. I was wondering if was being paid by the drug company to be spokeperson? kind of like a celebrity getting paid to do a commercial.

Has anyone heard of ways we can get paid for being doing other stuff? Like consulting a TV show.

Also does anyone plan on going into other areas of business like real estate or investing?

You can finish plastics, not take your boards and get into entertainment while practicing - makes a lot of money.
Once you become an expert - a company may sponsor you.
SOme senior surgeons are involved and get paid to do board review courses. Others do med mal defense as consultants.
I took time off to learn business and did hands-on mortgage banking, day-trading and private equity investing. Also did some chart reviews and expert witness - but it was plaintiff work (don't like doing that)
There are a lot of opportunities - like inventing your own product.

Of course he was. Drug companies will pay you (even as a resident) to give a talk about one of their products. Several hundred dollars for a short talk, if you're in to that kind of thing. Slippery slope in my view, but to each his own.

Residents are always the most disillusioned and...desparate for money as well (so prime targets for drug companies)!
