How to retract tongue without assistant during operative and crown preps?

I have not started working on patients yet, but with the mannequin, I use my left hand to retract the cheek with mirror. Anyways, I was just watching this video. From 1:45 to 1:57, you can see how the tongue is so close to the bur.

I cannot even imagine how difficult that would be during crown preps.

Mirror, dry angles, rubber dam (for operative).
Agreed with the crown preps. Least favorite teeth to prep are lower molars for this reason. Everything else is fine for crowns

That's scary close! I'd put a cotton roll between the tongue/tooth and cheek/tooth, or use hand mirror for separation.

Isolite or Isodry

Isolite, Isodry, Mr. Thirsty or Rubber Dam. You can try cotton roll on buccal vestibule and mirror for lingual area while seated behind the patient, but that’s a little risky imo.

Isovac/isolite if available. But also, you can just rubber dam it then take the dam off to bring the margin down and refine the interproximals
