Hey. Right now I'm stuck on Bio and I just don't know how to study especially since everyone is saying its getting harder. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to study Bio and do well? Also will I be screwed if I haven't taken any upper level bio courses?

Thanks.

Just get the Kaplan blue book start memorizing that. No you are not in trouble if you have not taken upper level bio.

how does shaums outline of bio compare to Cliff's AP Bio and Kaplan blue book ?

After reading some of the Bio questions on the DAT forum, I'm starting to feel royally screwed; in my General Bio I course, we only covered up to the very BASICS of evolution. The last real "section" we did was on genetics (chromosomes, mitosis/meiosis, translation/transcription, etc.). Hell, we didn't even learn to identify any structures -- my teacher was one of those guys who seemed to put more of an emphasis on memorizing definitions. For example, I couldn't point out the parts of a phospholipid worth a crap, but I remember that there is a hydrophilic head pointing outwards, two hydrophobic fatty acid tails pointing inwards, one of them is saturated and the other is unsaturated, etc.

I'm not planning on taking the DAT until Summer 2008, but, dang...it sounds like I got a lesser-than-highschool course of biology. To make matters worse, my school doesn't even do Gen. Bio II; instead, they have a "Research Methods" class where you learn how to write science articles.

I think studying for the Bio might be the toughest section to study for because it almost seems like there is an endless amount of information that can be asked from Bio. Getting your hands on as much material as possible is the way to go. Kaplan blue book is long and basically covers everything. Once you have created a solid base for yourself in the Bio section, the next step is DAT DESTROYER. This is the icing on the cake, the questions are extremely challenging but the explanations are phenomenal. I strongly recommend investing in the DAT Destroyer. Not only is it great in Bio, it is great in Chem, Ochem and QR!!

Good luck!

I would use kaplan, Cliff's AP Bio, Destroyer, and the campbell textbook (use for sections not covered well in kaplan).
