I plan on taking the MCAT next april or may so I have some time (roughly 8-9 months. I plan on starting to study in August because I will be done with Anatomy and physiology and psych statistics in summer and will be completely free to start. I was just wondering what is a good way to study and get a good way. I would like as much information as possible, meaning

what kind of study habits
should I take courses and what courses specifically
what books to buy
any other additional matter I am missing

I am willing to try as hard as possible and have the time and money for prep courses so if anyone has any advice on how to study to try and solidify a good grade please let me know.

Also interested in people who got above 30 especially 35+? would like to know how you accomplished this.

Thank you.

If I can wade into this, I alway tell my students that one of the best way to prepare for Boards is to take as many practice tests as possible. Standardized tests have a kind of rythym or pattern, and so the more test question you see, the more familiar they look.

This is an archaic example, but in preparing for the GRE for admission to grad shcool, they introduced a logic section. So by seeing so many questions like "Five men are standing in a line. Two have blue hats, three have red shirts. How many have black shoes?"...I was able to ace that section.

good luck!

I can not agree more about practice tests. I did EK. I went through every book answering every multiple choice question and taking all of the quizzes. Then I reviewed every question to make sure I understood why the right answer was the right answer. I also took all of the AAMC practice tests available online with test-like conditions (took the whole test timed/ear plugs) and I reviewed those tests after I finished them.

Overall I spent about 4 months studying ( a few hours daily). I ended up doing really well, so I recomend this method if you're really self-motivated.

Best of Luck!
