How to study, not get distracted, and focus, while studying on the computer?

Hey everybody,
So, I just wanted some advice/tips that all of you use, while studying on the computer? I find myself getting easily sidetracked and distracted, while studying on the computer, like going to Amazon, searching for random things that pop in my head, etc. It doesn't help that many times I'm FORCED to study on the computer because that's where my notes and material are. Any advice/insight that you all can provide will be greatly appreciated and thank all of you so much!!! 🙂

Download what you need and then disconnect the flipping Internet.
 
There's a program that locks you from using anything but certain apps for a set amount of time. I forget what's it's called but one of my friends used it on their laptop. I recommend giving it a try. You can limit yourself to Microsoft word or your notes app or whatever for like an hour at a time with short breaks in between.
 
I clocked in/out when I studied. I would reset the stopwatch on my iPhone every morning, and when I began working I'd "clock in" by starting the timer.

When I realized I needed to order something off amazon, or check my email, or play a round of fortnight ( :smack: ) I would stop the timer to do that thing, and then start it again when I returned to studying. This way I was able to see the amount of time I spent actually studying each day, which served as a solid motivator. There's nothing like spending 6 hours "studying" and realizing you've only been doing about 2.5 hours of work. It lit a fire under my ass.
 
I wound up blocking my favorite game website on my computer because it was draining too much time. The process takes just enough time to not be worth doing. Just google browser locks.
 
Use the StayFocused plug-in on Google Chrome. You can block all websites except for the ones you need for X amount of time every day.
 
On a somewhat unrelated note I use the apple restrictions on my iPhone to increase my overall productivity. Instagram, youtube reddit, facebook, pornography, etcetera are all blocked. I do not have my password, but I can get it by running a program on my computer if I need it for something like downloading a new app. I've been doing this for about 3 months and it has been amazing. I read before bed now almost every night and sleep much better. I have K9 web blocker on my computer which essentially blocks the same sites. The password for K9 is written on a piece of paper buried in a known spot in my storage closet lol. I only have instagram, which I'll check once a week from a work computer when I have downtime.

That’s last part is a joke but seriously I do have trouble studying on my computer and this sounds like it might help but I’m not familiar with it.
 
Check out the pomodoro method. You study/work for 25 minutes, then take a 3-5 minute break. After 4 sessions, take a 15-30 minute break.

No joke --- I used to loop an audio file of a Satanic voice screaming "Hey @sshole, get back to studying" for 6 hours straight every night while I buried my nose in the books. It actually worked to a large degree!

Of course, we're all human and need a study break every day so don't feel guilty about indulging in Fortnite or social media blasting or a healthy porn session. Just keep all the fun stuff to under one hour per day and you'll do real good.

It's called "Cold Turkey" but also be careful because there's no override feature. If you set it to 3 hours of not opening certain apps you're literally locked out of everything for those 3 hours. I recommend doing an hour at a time so you can take 15 minute breaks in between.
