I have already submitted my ERAS and 3 of my LOR's have been downloaded. However, I am receiving new LOR's now in my 4th year that I would like to use to replace some of the ones already downloaded.

Is there a way to deassign LOR's so that I can add new ones? There is a max limit of 4 LOR's. The LOR's are grayed out on my ERAS...

I do not mind if programs still have the old LOR's I assigned as long as I am able to send them my new ones.

A resident friend of mine tried swapping (there was a typo in the original copy sent out, referencing peds instead of EM). Even after "switching" on ERAS, the programs that had already downloaded her original LOR for whatever reason didn't replace with the new one. You have one final spot so submit a fourth LOR, and could use it for the best one. If it's that important, I think you'll have to call or email each program to replace the LORs. At the same time, I don't know if you want to be *that person* making the PC work harder. Are the new LORs THAT much better?

You can't do it through ERAS. Just assign the one letter that's the best out of the new ones

If you do a search, you'll get confused. This was possible to do last year. ERAS was changed this year so that you get to submit 4 letters total. Once downloaded, it's final. You can only unassign letters that have not yet been downloaded.

Hey aPD - silly question. Is a newly retrieved 4th LOR at this point in the game going to make a difference?

Yes it will because it is the letter from the clinical rotation in the specialty I am applying for. Oh well, I will just email the programs individually.

Oh sorry man, that question wasn't aimed at your particular situation. It was a general question. I just figure at this point, if a program has retrieved all your other information will one LOR really convince a PD to grant you an interview?

Everything is reviewed. If your application is on the cusp, a 4th letter could push it either direction. However, I agree that for most applicants, a 4th letter isn't going to change an interview / don't interview decision -- but it still could affect ranking.
