Hey all you Pre-allo's. I purchased a cheap $3 watch at Walmart to wear on MCAT day that numerically counts down. I read on a forum there is a way to cut-the-wire inside a watch so the timer doesn't sound but it continues to work and time down. Does anyone know how to do this? I have taken the back off the watch, but I don't have any idea what to do next. Anyone out there ever done this or know how?

Here's a suggestion I found on a pre-med website: "To prevent beeping, set the timer for one hour more than required. For example, VR is 1 hr 25 min, set your timer for 2 hr and 25 min, when the counter reaches one hour you are out of
time."

I went to Radio Shack last year and bought one of their timers (I think it was 10 or 15 bucks). They unscrewed the back for me and pulled out the wire that connected the speaker fo free.

Does it have a stopwatch function also? That's what I used. I just had it count up, so I could see how much time had gone by, and from that how much time was left. That way, you just have one small beep during the section time (to start it), and you can stop it and reset it after the section time has stopped, so it doesn't bother anyone.

my mcat day, i had my dads watch laid out with all my other crap. and i forgot it. ok fine, there is one at the test center. then the clock friggin stopped int he middle of the test. i kept looking up and and it was 920, 920, 920, and i was like, have i found the MCAT warpzone??

but i got in, so who cares

I did the same things as indiandoc. But I had a watch and had a watch shop diconnect the beep for me. They did it quick and for free. No worries after that.

In some watches (like mine when i took the MCAT), the battery is directly connected to the circuits of the chime, which are located on the back cover of the watch. Thus, when you take off that back cover (usually by unscrewing 4 or so tiny screws), you interrupt that connection. What I did was place a piece of regular scotch tape over the battery so that when I screwed the back cover back on there would be no connection. It worked! Give it a try. Good luck on the test!
