Surprisingly couldn't find any how to's on this.

Should it be thorough and list reasons why their program is a great fit and what not?

Or should it be succinct with you just mentioning your #1 choice since they're busy bodies?

Anyone have any templates or anything?

(Yes I know this is a typical neurotic med student thread. Please just humor me/help me out.)

I’ve always thought succinct is best, but bear in mind, letters of intent generally have very little effect on where you match, aside from you ranking that program #1.

You are overthinking this. Write whatever you like. These #1 emails are not going to have a big effect -- for all we know you are sending them to every program.

Dear Dr. So-And-So

I was very impressed with you and your (program/faculty/residents/_____) at my interview on Date X, 19___.
After much thought and deliberation since completion of my interviews, I have decided that I will be ranking your program #1.
I hope to be working with you and the rest of your program in July 2019!

I would not sell myself short. Rather tell them that you are considering ranking a different program #1. Let them come to you my friend.

You're gonna hate me but what did you use as the subject title? Lol

It'll have 0 impact. And every letter or whatever a program sends you means nothing (serious).

Your general application + how well they like you in general = your ranking.
