How to you guys study

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Depends on the class.

For Zoo I made a bunch of phylogenetic trees to tie all the names together. In cell and molecular bio I made a bunch of flash cards with questions and key terms and processes. In physics and orgo I just did a sh*tton of practice problems.

You need to learn to tailor your study methods to the material in the class.

Are you asking medical students or premeds? If premeds, I don't think any of us has been exposed to an overwhelming amount of information when compared to medical school curriculum.

What about a reading intensive class like sociology where you have to know many definitions, names etc.

or a history class?

"Repetition is the father of learning"

Also, use current knowledge to bridge the gap to new knowledge. Make connections, analogies, metaphors.
This will help you retain the information for longer.

I always study with a good amount of sleep (or lots of caffeine, but since your body adapts to caffeine you shouldn't do that often). Otherwise, my ability to memorize and think clearly is kinda off and the quality of study is bad. Also, when you study, try to be active and ask yourself quick questions throughout the time you study. That way, you have this reaction to a similar question when you see it on the test. Oh, and always think that way, "this might be on the test, or no way that will be on there so I don't need to look at it in detail."

Another strategy I use is to read the chapters from the book sometime before class. repetition is great for large amount of info. In psychology, you will learn that things need to go through working memory before they are stored into long term memory. the more things you get into the long term memory, the better to work with.
