Hey all, well, it seems like second look season is fast approaching. What are your thoughts on how useful seconds looks are? Do they help make a decision, do they give a different impression than on interview day, or are they just a cheap vacation?

Not that useful, unless you can get some good face time with students who are currently attending there. An M4 would probably be the most honest 😉

I think it varies by the person. Some people already have their minds set on a school beforehand so for them it's pretty much just a vacation. For others who are split between a few schools it can heavily impact their decision.

It's like interview day but people say they more relaxed and pay more attention to the tours since they aren't stressed out about the interviews. You usually get to see more of the facilities and maybe tour some of the clinical sites. You also might get to talk with current students and faculty as well as your future potential classmates and see if your personalities mesh well together. If you're already set on a school and want to save some cash I don't think it would be worth it (assuming you need to travel far and would require hotel arrangements). If you're really torn between a few schools though I think you owe it to yourself to check them out to make a more informed decision since you'll likely be paying tens of thousands of dollars to them a year anyway.

Agree with bolded 100%

Tuition is outrageous. Might as well like where you're attending... if you have a choice that is 🙂

I'm curious to everyones opinions on this as well! I feel like they are just going to try to sell us on the school so I'm not sure quite how useful it will be...

The med students I've talked to really recommended going to the schools you're seriously deciding between. Some of them went to their top choice's second look only to realize they liked another school much better (better sense of community, etc.). Someone else also went to one just to rule the school out but instead ended up matriculating there, go figure . I'm signed up for two currently, so I guess I have to say it's worth it to go 😳.

It's not useful if you know that you're attending a particular school. It's very useful if you're trying to decide between a few places and it's been a while since you've been there. There's still some value if you know you're going to a particular place as you can scope out housing options and potential roommates.
