Hey all.....I's just wondering whoelse will be attending Howard this coming fall? Let urselves be known.....I'm trying not to believe that I'm the only SDNer going there next august.
 
well i have an interview coming up, so we'll see how that goes. i was just wondering when you got your acceptance, and how long it took them to get back to you after the interview. congratulations on going to howard by the way😀
 
with the rate at which HU is going, most probably wont know till june or so
 
thanx for ur replies.....we all know how slow Howard can be. I was thinking that at least half the class should be filled by now....we are just 3 or 4 months away from the beginning of the semester. oh well!

as for me....my interview was at the end of october and i recieved the acceptance letter sometime around mid January. I had a couple of problems that delayed my application...u know....the common application irritants...letters getting lost....etc etc.

I wish u both the best of luck.....lilnix...hope to see u in august!
 
I'll use this as a bump.....

but...I still have yet to hear from Howard. They lost my LORs back in February, and it took them 2 weeks to find them. And aside from the email i got back in early March, I have heard nothing about my applcation status. I'm in Maryland...i should just drive over there and tell them to print me out either an interview invite or a rejection leter. Its almost Mid-April. 🙁

havent heard from them since Jan when i got the green cards back.
 
I just got back from an interview at Howard. Loved it!!!!! Hope I get in. Good luck to everyone (myself included 🙂 ).
 
It's nice to see that Howard applicants have a presence on SDN. Good to see minorities talking about HBCU med schools.

Anyways I am a first year med student at Howard and I want to congratulate those of you that got in and hope to see you at orientation in August. I'd also like to wish good luck to those of you still waiting to hear.

hey congrats on the interview, cause i remember u still hadnt heard back from them like 3weeks ago. When did u submit ur stuff? I wonder if I should call, just hopin my stuff isnt lost 🙁
Other than my cards sent back in late Jan, not heard from them, dont even remember getting the email 😡

i submitted my stuff in late january, and got an interview invite at the beginning of february. hopefully, you will hear from them....i would definitely call.

Has anyone had ANY luck with calling or emailing Howard? Every time I call they literally hang up on me as soon as I say "I was wondering if I could possibly speak with someone in Admissions in regards to my application." Its almost comical, except for the fact that I really want to go there and they are showing me no love. Does anyone know any non-URMs that have interviewed there? I've got a lengthy background in working with the underserved, and my numbers are higher than their averages, yet I've heard nothing. I got rejected last year in OCTOBER - as in 2 months after classes had already started! Any advice? Any current Howard students know anything about their experiences they can share? Good luck everyone!
 
I have not heard from them since January. I called the admissions office and they told me that it was still under review. I made that call two weeks ago. It 's already mid-april, how long does it take to review an application and conclude it with a yes or no???

i called an hr ago, and got same response. Said they r conducting interviews till May-June. I just want a yes or No

hey thanks for reminding me, i was gonna post on this thread a few days ago, then completely forgot🙄

my interview at howard went really well!! i really like the school, and their library is beautiful isn't it? i also really like that we'll all have laptop computers as incoming freshmen to go along with the wireless internet access on campus. i got there before the time they told me to arrive, but i wish i had gotten there even earlier to sign up on that interview list. i ended up waiting for a really, really long time to be interviewed. the students were really friendly, and as we all waited in this room many students would just drop in and talk to us throughout the day.

they said that 3/4 of the class is full but i don't know how many deposits they have. they will also be interviewing into june. since they had all my LOR's (i never got that card back so i was pleasantly surprised they had them) i was told i'll be hearing from them in about 4 weeks. good luck to everyone, i'd love to be apart of howard's class of '07!

I interviewed on November 19th and still haven't heard anything 5 months later.
 
lilnix, glad that your interview went well...mine did, too. lets cross our fingers that we get in!

Okay, being the typical neurotic SDNer, I have a few questions.

1. Has anyone besides IOE been accepted to Howard or has anyone heard of anyone being accepted to Howard recently?

2. What is their average time to get back to you. On our interview day they said 4-6 weeks, hopefully faster at this stage of the game. But, people are still waiting.

3. IOE, did they let you know that they had lost your materials, or did you happen to call and find out?

4. wolferman, have you had any success calling/e-mailing the admissions office about your status?

cocoabutter...congrats for the interview...I hope u get to hear some good news soon.

I know a couple of people who just got their acceptances not too long ago, both of them are not regulars here though. one of them was interviewed early in dec...and she heard the reply about mid march. The other one was interviewed in jamuary and he got his letter last week.


About that 4-6 weeks....i dunno...but for me it took about 3 months till i heard from them. and those were the longes three months in my life. I called the ad office constantly....they didn't inform me about my letters, infact even after they recieved them noone bothered to send me the green cards. So if u have any concerns regarding urs i encourage u to call. the good news is that I noticed a great change of tone when u tell the admission lady that u have already been interviewed..a change to the better that is...know more friendly. do whatever u can to make sure ur application is in order.

oh by the way.....for those who make it...and interested in finding a place to live in u can contact me for i am going through this painful process right now....since i live in VAt its a bit easier for me. I will be more than glad to help.

Well, acceptances are going out because my bf just recently found out that he was accepted. He interviewed in early March and the letter was sent beginning of April. Funny thing is, he never received the letter, he just happened to call and find out earlier this week! So if you have been waiting longer than 6 weeks, I encourage you to call.

IOE, how early did you submit your AMCAS application? You got a pretty early acceptance!

has anyone heard anything recently? I haven't. It has been 4 weeks for me, so I will wait another 2 weeks before i start calling the admissions office. the waiting is killing me 🙁
 
I still havent heard back from Howard post-secondary. I called today, and they said they are still interviewing until the end of May. I got a call from UIC last week about a May interview in Chicago, so Howard isnt the only one that is running a little slow. So there is still hope for us who havent heard anything yet.

Well, here I am at six weeks with no word. I have corresponded with the admissions office and the have been nice, but not very forthcoming with information. I just want to know!!

Anyone else here anything?
 
hey cocoabutter, did you try emailing dr. cannon? i think she said we could contact her if we haven't heard anything. i'm gonna wait until next week since it's only been 5 weeks for me. since you've contacted the admissions office, what did they say? you think it's pretty much a waste of time getting in contact with them?
 
lilnix, I have not tried e-mailing Dean Cannon. I have been calling and e-mailing Ms. Finney about the status of my application. She is pretty busy, but she will get back to you. Maybe if I try Dean Cannon, I will get a better result. Do you think that it is a good idea or that it will work? I don't recall her saying that we could e-mail her. Thanks for the advice!
 
hey all....I think it is okay to email dr. Cannon if you feel u have waited for a really long time. I was advised to do so by her secretary when i tried to contact her. Even though i did email her, i can't really tell u how helpful it was for i received my acceptance only a few minutes after I clicked on "send".

I believe after the interview , provided that all ur recommendation letters are in file, everything goes to dr. Cannon for she is the one who makes the final decision. Ms. Finey can't tell you much about your status at that stage of the game, so i guess emailing her will give u nothing more than a "hang in there" response.

FYI. I interviewed at Howard in October and did not hear anything. Recently I decided to follow-up and found out that my interview report was lost. If you have been waiting for a while call asap. That could be it. Luckily the admission office found it and I was really happy especially since the class is not full yet.

I Interviewed at Howard back in December, and I got my acceptance letter around the end of February - so it took 'em about 7-8 weeks to get back to me.

Hang in there guys. 😎
 
That;s one of the worst things that I have ever heard an admissions office do. Those people are incompetent. All the trouble to get there for an interview, and then the long anxious wait, only to find out that they lost your intreview file. That would get me heated.

Was supposed to get my acceptance (or whatever) back in december they said 6 weeks when we interviewed. It is just the wierdest thing that has ever happened to me. All the people I interviewed with pretty much got acceptances too which was actually why I got curious. I guess I was not curious then since I was still busy interviewing in a lot of other schools. Anyways, got my fingers crossed. Being optimistic!

You're complaining about 6 weeks? Try 6 months. I interviewed Nov. 19 and found out May 14!

Try 8 months and I still have not found out. I interviewed before you during the second rounds of interviews in october. Did you read my previous comment about my lost file!

wow, didn't realize they were this disorganized. I just thought they were rude! I had my 2ndary in before January and haven't heard a peep from them. I'll definately email DCannon. Thanks.

Actually they found the file and it will be underreview. I am just grateful that it was found. They were very concerned and proactive about the file. Hey I actually know someone who interviewed in May and got in! She found out in like a week so keep hope alive. Besides there interview is about a weeks notice unlike other schools that might schedule for an interview 2.5 months before. This could be a good thing if you live close by!
 
Howard lost my secondary after I interviewed in early December. I did not find out until two weeks ago (almost 6 months after my interview, and 8 months after I sent in my secondary). I went over there in person and filled out another one, making sure they put it in my file and didnt lose it this time (I live 15 minutes away). I also emailed Dean Cannon about what happened. She replied today and offered me an acceptance. I am accepting the offer over Drexel but I am still waiting on decisions from Mount Sinai and Einstein. I am very excited though, and would love to go to howard! 🙂

what a story!!! I guess being aggressive is the best way to deal with their admission staff. I had to go through a similar ordeal myself.

I hope to see u there in august! by the way...which part of DC r u from?
 
I live in Northeast DC, on Riggs Rd, near Fort Totten metro station, which is only about 4 stops away from Howard on the green line. I would probably live at home if I end up at Howard, and save some money.

Cool. Still waiting on Dean Cannon's email. Have not heard from her. Good luck I am happy for you. Hopefully we might be classmates.
 
Hey all, I am still here waiting on my decision from Howard. Tomorrow makes 8 weeks with no info. I have tried calling and I e-mailed Dean Cannon about a week and a half ago and I have not recieved a response. At this point, though, it doesn't really matter because I am going to Wake Forest. I will be withdrawing sometime soon. Good luck to all those waiting!
 
Congrats to all of those who have been accepted. And for all of those waiting KEEP HOPE ALIVE I got my acceptance letter last month. So now I am trying to focus my energy on getting an apartment close to campus but in a decent neighborhood without having to pay a grand a month. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

it's really frustrating to just sit and wait because my phone calls don't get me anywhere, and i can't seem to get a response from my emails to dean cannon... i guess my next step is to contact my interviewer?🙄
 
lilnix, I feel your frustration. I have been waiting for over 8 weeks for some sort of contact from Howard and received none. Since I have already been accepted elsewhere and I have decided to go there, I sent my withdrawal letter to Howard. Good luck to you and everyone else waiting!
