Hi, HPLRP will only forgive med school loans. However, if you consolidate your med school loans with let's say undergrad loans, will they still forgive the consolidated loan? Having trouble finding answer online. Thanks.

Hi,
It covers all federal loans for education. It will not cover private loans. It would cover undergrad loans.
I didn't have any undergrad loans, but I asked the question wondering if it would have covered an additional masters degree. According to the APMC it would have.
The $40k per year is taxed and it ends up ~$28k annually. Hope this helps!

HPLRP is very complicated because it covers basically all health care disciplines. The Army looks at as off setting the "qualifying degree". Which in the case of physicians is limited to MD or DO. Even if the loan is consolidated, the Army will ask the loaning institution to separate out the undergrad portion from the medical school.

You will just have to show on paper what portions of the consolidated loan are medical school loans. They would still repay on it.
