I am signing up for a 3 year HPSP scholarship (currently in my 1st year). Is my commitment then 3 years of active duty, with 3 of IRR? And does my residency still apply for my IRR time? Thanks for any help-

no.

3 years Active Duty

5 Years IRR/Active Reserve/Guard

You must have 8 years of Minimum Service Obligation (MSO). So, if you do a military residency, this counts towards your MSO. However, if you end up being deferred for a civilian residency, you would owe the full IRR time

Also something to keep in mind is if your residency is >3 years then you are additionally obligated year-for-year. So if you go into for instance surgery or ENT then they sucker an extra AD service year out of you.
