I'm an alternate on the waitlist for the AF HPSP. My recruiter tells me he is positive I will receive the scholarship since my number is close to being called for being selected. Anybody have any similiar experiences on a waitlist? I have to wait a few more weeks which is a bit frustrating.

Yep, lots get waitlisted. A recipient has a few weeks to sign the line otherwise his scholarship goes back into the pool. One note of caution though. Some guys are put on the waitlist and later moved or put on out of order. My army recruiter said I was 5th on the waitlist (I applied very late), but I was the first one selected off of it, about 10 days later. He thinks that I may have been placed on the list incidentally because he didn't remember having seen someone get taken out of order before. My personaly feeling is that you are ranked on the waitlist according to grades and MCAT but they make the selection by considering ranking and letters of recommendation. I also had several family members that were former Army.
