Hello, has anyone here recently had luck enrolling in TSP during HPSP ADT? (specifically Army with no prior service to dent/med school)
I have seen conflicting things on mil med sites, SDN, and reddit.
Per the below linked navy website : "HPSP and FAP participants can only open a TSP account when on Active Duty for Training (ADT) orders. To establish an account, during an ADT period email the signed TSP-U-1 form to ..."

I have read that you need 60 days of active duty to enroll, which I will hit 15 days into my next 45 day ADT.
If you're army and know who I could email my signed TSP-U-1 to that would be great! (I think my HPSP advisor is stonewalling me)
Any thoughts are appreciated. thanks.

I am Army and was told two years ago by the then HPSP manger that we cannot contribute to a TSP as a student. That may or may not be true. It will also be a logistical nightmare dealing with HPSP office and DFAS and trying to contribute to a tsp with one or two pay periods. But there really is no point when you have access to Roth IRA. Put $7k into that from your stipend and forget it. TSP is worse in almost every way and when you graduate you’ll have plenty of time to contribute to your TSP. Do you have an extra $7k a year to max out your Roth IRA? If not, it’s not even worth wasting time talking to hpsp or finance about if, or how, you can contribute to a TSP.
