I'm considering the navy hpsp program, and I was shown the pay scale during your committed years. Could someone clarify what this amounts to in a salary. All of the bonus mumbo-jumbo leaves one rather confused as to the actual salary one makes. Thanks.

i know i've seen better information, but there's some info on this thread from a while back:

i'll try and find some better #'s if nobody else does...as far as i can tell, it is a good deal 1) because you start with no debt and therefor don't have to spend $ paying it back, 2) some of your NAVY income is non-taxable, and 3) no malpractice insurance stuff to deal with. The bonuses are good, especially in like the 8-12 year range or something after graduating from school, because that's the time when you are finally well trained and experienced but would have the option of getting out of the military for private practice, and they'll try and bribe you to stay in 😉 not a bad deal if you ask me.

You can get the info from this Navy website (pay calculator):

Remember that your take home pay is much greater because of the numerous tax benefits. Special pays are expempt from FICA/SS tax, BAH is completely tax exempt, and if you can claim a state of residency that does not tax military residents, then your whole salary is State tax exempt.
