Hello,

Was just admitted for c/o 2023 this month; there was too much uncertainty with regards to where I'd go to school so that I couldn't apply for the 4 year without knowing where I got in. Now that I have, I had a few questions about the HPSP.

1. Are all three branches offering 3 year scholarships to students who never applied for the 4 year?
2. How does this work with post-doc programs? Do you have to go immediately into the repayment after you graduate and put off applying to residencies until after you've completed repayment?
3. I've heard something about how after your 3 years of repayment (for a 3 year scholarship) you're still in reserves for another 3 years? Is that true, and how does that work?
4. What's the earliest date to apply for HPSP?
5. Is it ok/common to apply to all three branches as well as the NHSC scholarship?
6. Do people re-use the same LORs as they used for applying to dental school?

Thank you ahead of time for any help at all!

Search for all this stuff on the military forums. Lots of answers there.

Hey man, do me a favor and PM and let us talk. But some of your answers are as follows:

1. Yes.
2. Think of this like just like your civilian counterparts process except you wear camouflage. There are opportunities for post-grad.
3. This is called inactive ready reserve - it is nothing more than a 'glorified draft list.' In cases of an extreme war like WW2, you may be called up. Unlikely.
4. Oct 1 is the Fiscal year and that is when new scholarships are rolled out. It is never too early to apply, only too late.
5. DO NOT apply to all three branches. If you got accepted to medical school, then you will likely get accepted to any HPSP that you apply. It will simply be a HUGE waste of everyones time and effort.
6. Yes.

Again, do me a solid and PM. I can hook you up with a good recruiter that won't BS you.
