So, after doing some research last night, I'm still a little confused about how the whole residency match works for HPSP students.
My primary concerns are:
1) Will we be pressured into a field of medicine that we might not see ourselves in (IM/FP)
- While one of the reasons why I am interested in doing the HPSP is so I will have the option to do FP or IM without having to worry about gobs of debt, I don't want to be pressured into those fields either.
2) How does the residency match work?
3) Does anyone feel like HPSP has made their rotations more difficult? It appears like it can be very difficult to get rotations you are interested in.
4) Are there specific age requirements/limitations (I'm a non-trad [32], but feel that I'm in pretty good shape)
5) What kind of more adrenalin seeking fields are available for HPSP students/residents and attendings? I saw a diving doc, flight doc, helicopter doc, etc.. What are those fields and what would the physicians be doing (sorry if I didn't get the names correct)?
6) Are the hours for residency practice much different than civilian medicine, barring cushy fields?
I have quite a few more questions, but I'll save them and try to do some more research in the meantime.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
