Yay! I knew there had to be some. Most of my friends are rising seniors, one of them wants to go into opthalmology. A few others want to go into psychology. It's pretty neat how people who are interested in healthcare tend to gather. =D
 
It's true- birds of a healthcare feather seem to flock together 🙂

Scheduled a shadowing day with a local small animal vet next week! The lady I talked to said he will have a lot of appointments that day- looking forward to hopefully seeing and learning quite a bit.
 
I am SOOOOOO LAZY. Well kinda. I work 40 hours a week, but then do nothing productive for the other 128.

Well, if you sleep eight hours a night, then that just leaves 72 free hours. Then, if you eat for a half a hour three times a day, that leaves 61 and a half hours.

Don't feel bad, those are productive uses of time. =D

Ahem, all of these Class of 201X are my progeny! :laugh:
Learning keyboard, piano, or any musical instrument is enjoyable. Piano is really an exercise in perfection, as so many fingers can be doing so many things at once; if you miss a single note, it can throw off the entire phrase. In front of an audience, error is especially harrowing! I've played for about 13 years -- stick with it, and you will love it!

Yeah, right now I'm just messing around with the keys. I've noticed that I'm already getting better at placing my fingers. I wish that I would have started playing when I was a kid.

You seem intelligent, so I'm sure you'll be able to teach yourself reasonably well, or, if you want/if you already have one, a tutor can really help you get off on the right foot. One of the biggest tips I can give you is this: practice hearing intervals between notes. It will, with some practice, teach you how notes fit together in simple and complicated chords, how to hear when something is incorrect, how to fix said imperfection, and (the best part once you know scales) how to improvise!

Piano/keyboard, simply, is timeless. Few, if any, instruments have the variety of repertoire.

Okay, I'm done geeking over piano. I should be enjoying my vacation!

Last one week, I have read quite a bit in this forum. Statements are +ve in one and -ve in other. For example, one say "Take many AP courses so that you can get credit in yr college to wrap the undergraduate sooner". Other note says "Even though you take AP classes, DO NOT take those AP exams in high school. Instead retake those course in college. Because medical schools like you taking in College instead of High School". One says "Studying pre-med in any college is good", while the other says "Pick a good Pre-Med school".

It appears only In-State public schools are affordable, which leaves me with
- ZERO 7/8 Accelerated Medical Schools since there are none in NC.
- TWO Medical Schools (UNC-CH and ECU)

Hmm. I thought there are 300+ Medical Colleges in the country. And I can afford ONLY TWO !!!!. Every thing else is out of reach due to COST since we may not qualify for need-based aid. I am like most of us, the middle class. Not a good thing to be a middle class and expected to study in a college of our choice. Either we should be below poverty OR rich. Any way getting back to reality, based on the App-A,

QUESTION OF THE DAY: What else we need to do in order to INCREASE my son's "Admission chances" in a top 7/8 year BS/MD medical program and INCREASE the chances of getting a "Decent Merit-Scholarship"

App-A:
- Currently he has 4.75 weighted GPA(that is the maximum a freshmen can score in this school). 4.0 UnWeighted GPA.. Expected to have higher/similar GPA by 12th grade.
- Expected SAT score 2350 out of 2400. Great SAT scores are important, but how much difference does it make from 2350 to 2400. If we get 2350, I plan to stop instead of retaking it again for 2400.
- Expected ACT score 35 out of 36
- Expected to take SAT Subject Tests in Math-2, Biology and Chemistry with a score around 750-800 out of 800 in each.
- Expected AP courses that he is likely to take before graduating High School is 12 courses. 4 in 10th, 4 in 11th and 4 in 12 th grade. In 10th grade he is enrolled into AP-Biology, AP-Physics-B, AP-Calculus, AP-GovtPolitics
- He plays Varsity Tennis part for High School Tennis team and played for "High School State Championship" this year
- Participant - Quiz Bowl
- Member - Key Club

My college apparently has a different way of doing chemistry. Instead of my Chemistry schedule looking like this:

First-Year
General Chem I
General Chem II

Second-Year
Organic Chem I
Organic Chem II

I'll have this schedule

First Year
General Chem I
Organic Chem I

Second Year
Organic Chem II
General Chem II

Does this make any sense? My best guess is that they save the math-intensive part of General Chem until you get through the conceptual portions of G-Chem and O-Chem, but still really odd. Just wanted to see if any other hSDNers could make sense of this for me.
 
My final AP scores:

Chemistry - 4 (TOTAL shock... my teacher was awful. It was an $86 coloring book for all intents and purposes.)
English - 5
Government - 4
Macroeconomics - 4
Calculus AB - 5

Combined with my other AP credits, I'll be a sophomore before I set foot in college, so I'm pretty excited! 🙂

If I remember right, Chem 1 was not math intensive at all.

You got your scores back already? I'm going to hover by my mailbox until they come in. I'm waiting on AP Chemistry and AP Statistics scores.

I called in and paid $8 because my orientation to register for classes is on Monday. I'd prefer to just pay and have the scores rather than have to go back and rehash my schedule after finding out scores.

An excellent plan! I love me some barbecue. And I had mine May 27th, the weekend before I graduated. I have friends who had/are having theirs late June/early July though. Have fun at your partayyy!

I had a nice 4th of July.

My Orientation is Friday and Saturday. I get my schedule on Saturday, which the college makes for at least the first semester.

Teachers received the scores today. My teacher let us know on Facebook what we got. You can call and ask the AP people directly, but it costs some money to do so.
 
Yesterday I encountered a kid who made my school life quite difficult as an 8th grader. He sat directly behind me in two courses, and would stab me with a freaking paperclip when he was bored. I talked to teachers about it, blah blah blah, nothing was done, but luckily he graduated that year. (Not the sharpest tool, which was why he had classes with 8th graders).

Anyway I was at a rodeo yesterday, and he was working in the taco truck where I bought lunch.

Just received my partial schedule (still have two more class slots to fill). I have introductory biology and chemistry to start off. And, I have a weekly night lab for chemistry! Don't know whether to be excited or miserable...

I'm glad a classmate has found her calling in hospital pharmacy. But really, isn't it just a little excessive to make "Studying Pharmacy at *our college*" when you haven't spent a day in undergrad?

Also, I'm really happy for her, but how dare she condescend to me when she was the one to break down in the midst of our AP Chemistry tests. I'm sorry, I don't know what I want to do once I'm out of undergrad. Not all of us know our callings when we're 17, and just because you did doesn't mean I'm beneath you because I lack such certainty.

So I went through Orientation, and Pre-pharmacy is a major here. I heard that when their dean asked them all if they wanted to be pharmacists, a girl said, "Man, I dun't wanna be no stupid pharmacist, I want me the Pharm.D!"

While a 6 would have been nice, I'm still celebrating about my score!
I'll be leaving home tomorrow afternoon for orientation on Monday and Tuesday!
