hey guys! i'm thinking about applying to the sinai humed program this summer ... has anyone decided if they are or not, too?

i thought i'd create this thread for the 2011 applicants to bond and share the emotions involved in the application process. :welcome:

hope your summer is going well so far!!

hello there!

so what are your thoughts on the program? are you applying?

I think it is a great opportunity for humanities majors. I am excited to apply.

haha, i'm sure there are plenty more applicants out there -- where are you guys!? 😛

It's an awesome program; just wish I was applying a few years ago before the acc. rate dropped like an anchor. Can't wait for the app to be out though.

By any chance, do any previous applicants know what the essays for the program (or the overall app) is like?

i'm thinking it should be a little like the reg medical school app -- i mean, it's good though that we don't have to do AMCAS now. i heard you have to apply via AMCAS before you actually start at sinai.

It is about that time. Oct. 1st is one week away. Has everyone submitted?

Hello all. I finally submitted my app this past week! I waited for recs, transcripts... just hoping I didn't wait too late. Anyone else out there applying? Good luck to you all. 🙂

haha I'm sending in my app TODAY. what can i say, just been swamped w/ school work.

so anyone wanna discuss their background?

the director told me they like non-traditional students - and aye that i am 😀 i was a theater major, did some acting, then went back to college to pursue an English/ creative writing degree. I love writing, and am currently writing a film.

let's hear it for Humanities majors!

Glad to see someone else is applying! Good luck!

If they are looking for non-traditional students that's great.. I was homeschooled during high school. Pretty non-traditional, I guess. I came into college as a bio major, and switched to philosophy before the end of my 1st semester.. I absolutely love philosophy. 🙂

Wonderful! make sure u emphasize why u switched to philosophy in ur essay. BEST of luck to you!

Thank you! I really enjoyed the essay where I wrote about philosophy. I guess all we have to do now is wait! We should keep in touch.. this thread needs to start moving!

I received an email from them stating the app was incomplete, when in fact I sent everything in.

anyone else received that?

Also, I'm just bored. anyone wanna chit chat ab humanities and being a doc? I was sitting in class today reviewing Renaissance sonnets (how beautiful are they!) and was thinking how lucky we are to be able to explore our love of great literature (what makes humans human), as well as medicine 😀

FWIW, I didn't get such an email.. but as a suggestion, try checking your status on the application site? If everything's listed as received there, then in theory you should be good..?

they just told me they have everything and my app is currently under review...

i'll keep u guys updated :xf:

I got that same email.. same response from them too. Mount Sinai must be looking over both our applications now! :xf:

When do you guys expect to hear anything?

The "we look forward to reviewing" one..? I feel like it's just standard; not much use in over-interpreting.

First wave of interviews may be released this upcoming week. Last year's first invites came this upcoming week a year ago.

Thanks Espadaleader. Now if only if I could stop checking my interview date status every every hour........ 😱

Yeah, I'm doing the same thing. I'm pretty excited.

I've been really hoping this won't be an extremely dragged out process.. so its good to hear that some of us might get some info this week! 🙂

lol, me since like the day I submitted mine.

Anyone hear anything yet? 🙂 Nothing here yet.

Ahhhh I'm so tempted to email n' ask when can we expect word 😉 going back to refreshing browser every five min now :-D

Ahhhh HuMed! It's been a long time, and it was so weird to see the new year's thread up on SDN's first page! Just a bit of advice on this particular admissions process: I was complete in mid-August for HuMed, and I got my interview invite on November 2nd. I had one of the later interviews, but I would definitely not start going nuts over them at this point: it's still early.

If you have any questions about the interview process for HuMed just holler 🙂

We def will, Kangaroo Paw. Thanks 😉

Thank you! I am wondering.. what kind of stats are they looking for? Do you have a feel for what Mt. Sinai considers most in your overall app? Recommendation letters, GPA, etc? Also.. what was your interview like? 😱

I second that.

And kangaroo paw I sent u a pm but I'm not sure if it went through.

Does anyone know if they will let us know once they decide if we are rejected?

Or do we have to wait until December and just figure out if we don't get an interview/acceptance.

Thanks!

Rolling schools typically do the latter right?

They send rejection letters. Someone posted theirs here in a Humed thread a while ago.

Someone in the College Confidential HuMed thread said that the first wave of interviews will be released between Fri the 14th and the end of this week.

Awesome. This week might be the week, guys!

I called MS today. They have started sending out interviews already, guys! :scared:

the "not being able to do anything" feeling kind of blows, doesn't it? though i'm relatively confident that things will all work out for the best here.. and it's not like this program is the only route to med school either

Well said! :thumbs up:

I just really don't want to take MCATs/orgo/physics in undergrad if possible 😛

I hope we all get interviews. We could do an SDN meet-up lol.

Yes! Over some classic NY pizza :-D

I bit the bullet and asked them when we should expect to hear an answer. Response: "You should hear something from now onwards till Dec 5.

Thank you,".

We better be rewarded with ectasy after this agony ;-)

Oh no, Dec 5!? 😱

Do you guys check the "track your status" button daily, or just email? I feel obsessive doing both.. 😛

Yeah. I do both. This is weird. No one on this forum or the CC forum have interviews yet. Last year they were flowing.

I think it has to do with the fact that the number of applications skyrocketed due to the NYT article...

I don't know about that; after all, the NYT article was early last cycle.. it's been a while since that came out. Generally speaking though, I think it'd be interesting to get the figures for applied/interviewed/accepted for this year..
