I don't know about that; after all, the NYT article was early last cycle.. it's been a while since that came out. Generally speaking though, I think it'd be interesting to get the figures for applied/interviewed/accepted for this year..
Hey guys!!! I'm so sorry I haven't responded to all of your questions and PM's yet (I promise I will), I've had two weeks straight of midterms and now a huge lab report due Monday. This is what biochem: chemistry version does to a bio major...
Anyway, I just wanted to quickly respond to this comment. I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you: the normal number of applicants to HuMed is ~300, but last year's cycle (the one I applied to) saw 660 applicants, over double the amount they usually see. They interviewed 125 applicants instead of the usual 100, and accepted about 33-35 (I don't know the exact number). The NYT article was VERY influential in getting HuMed more applications, and made the entire process so much more competitive. I would expect a similar number of applicants this year, maybe a few less just because the article came out a while ago.
As an example, FOUR students from my school (a school with close ties to the HuMed program and Mount Sinai in general) were accepted to HuMed two cycles ago, but during my cycle there were ZERO accepted from my school.
Also, I would generally not worry too much about interviews at this point! It's a bit odd that interviews have only just started to come out: I got my invite last year November 2nd and interviewed on the 29th, which was considered "late" in the process. They might be going more slowly this year, though, since the Director of Admissions is brand-new (Basil Hanss). He's a really cool guy, and I'm sure he'll read your applications VERY thoroughly: he actually talked to me for half an hour about why I was ultimately rejected from the program, and gave me very helpful advice on how to apply to med schools in the future. I would really only do this after you've gotten your final decision, though, since it might be strange to make this call beforehand.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! I didn't ultimately end up going here, but it was a really cool school, and actually pretty similar to where I will matriculate! You'll all do great
😀
