My organization is scrambling with various processes to handle the potential shortage on the horizon. Estimated 3 to 6 months of products interruptions on small fluid. Even FDA indicated 40 plus products could be plagued with manufacturing concerns.
Is anyone involved with procurement, purchasing or contracting who like to share with the board how they deal with this issue?
What strategies are being deployed and what factors are taken into considerations?

Thanks

I work at a small hospital. We have almost run of out regular NS bags. We have a decent supply of D5W and ADV bags. For patients who are stable, PO, and don't have GI absorption issues, we are changing IV to PO. If abx can be mixed in ADV or D5W bags, we will do that. Another option is IM.

Like others we are switching to PO if appropriate, using premixed products, and switching to IV push. I don't think we will start making our own bags, but I suppose we could if it came to that. We haven't started switching anything to IM.
