I am addicted to surgery!! Standing in on a pediatric cardiac surgery of a 5 year old girl was one of the most intense experiences I have ever had! Which is one of the reasons I am in love with cardiac surgery right now! The blood, the guts, the smell of cauterizing flesh! I almost passed out the first time ,but after I got used to it, it was extremely exhilerating

People who are terminally ill. . . I work with advanced stage cancer patients and they are so awesome. They inspire me, even the ones who are mean SOBs. I literally walk away from them everyday, thankful for all that I have in my life.

Parker,

you love ped surgery???? Man, I frigging love that stuff!!! HAve you heard of Ben Carson? He's a ped neurosurgeon at Hopkins. Look him up on the web...I think he even has his own website or something. Anyway, he did the first "hemisphere separation" of siamese twins..hell...I have no idea what the word is...
but anyway, he was also in Oct. 2001 Time magazine for one of the best surgeons in the US.

Actually, that Oct 2001 Time issue was interesting (I think it was Oct). It had like 20 of the best scientists in the US...from surgeons to stem cell people...

Phil, very cool I'll look it up!

I am extremely interested in pediatric cardiac surgery, congenital defects are fascinating to me. My dad is actually a pediatric cardiologist so I've been exposed to that alot recently (spending time at the hospital and such) so I've gotten to meet alot of surgeons, and I am actually going to be shadowing a ped-cardiac surgeon for a whole month this summer! I am either going to be completely in love with surgery or hate it after this summer!! :)

I would love to have an operation named after me! My father actually worked with Dr. Norwood (The Norwood procedure for hypoplastic left heart) for 7 years in Philly, so I think I have pediatric cardiac surgery in my family! The intensity of surgery is what appeals to me the most, besides just the passion to be a doctor!

Any other surgery junkies out there?!
